I wonder why you care?

The most influential video's where made with bootlegged, or rented dvd's or vhs'.

Who cares... they still rock and no matter how you look at it.

Piracy is piracy either way.

Yes, you are. You said you NEED it. i.e. you cannot survive without it.
but is it really that bad? so i download a fricken video so i can make a fricken AMV. big deal....i have other ideas but i dont try to be superman and make them all at once...i wanna make this video so i do....i know i wont die if i dont but if i wanna do it, THE I WILL FRICKEN DO IT! besides, i know i'm not the only member to have ever used downloaded footage, but its something i wanna do and if thats what other people wanna do it, then do it. GET OVER IT!
...given your brilliant repartee here, I don't know if you can ever understand the difference between "want" and "need." That's somewhere after "forming complete sentences" and "finding the shift key."

I give up. Okay, kiddo, you will DIE IF YOU DON'T MAKE THE AMVs YOU WANT RIGHT THIS SECOND. YOU WILL DIE. Happy now?

...sometimes I wonder about you people.

Don't worry about it, like I said, we started arguing about different things at some point, I think.

And pssh, that's not a very bad death threat. On another board some dude started a whole new account dedicated to wishing me dead; nobody's topped that yet.

Let's not forget all of the people out there using downloaded music.

Not wanting to throw a few hundred dollars at a video is really pathetic. There are plenty of more expensive hobbies. I know plenty of guys who've spent endless amounts of money on carton upon carton (about the size of a beer carton) of CCG cards (terminology?)

Why are so many members so poor? Or rather how can they manage to afford the equipment? If we're talking downloaded source, something like a relatively fast computer and a broadband internet connexion. DVDs aren't that expensive and the same can be said for CDs. If you're able to find all of this anime, you should be just as able to find a way of paying for it.

EH... I wouldn't say about the equipment thing, my pc is slow as hell, and I still buy dvd's.

Some people choose to make the desision weather to buy a new pc or dvds and cd's.

And don't forget the age. Most people here have parents to buy them computers - but their parents aren't so happy to dish out $30 a pop for dvds on a kid who doesn't work. That leads them to the old "I don't have any money so I have to download" kick - the computers are incidental as gifts from parents who thought they'd be used for eductation (not anime watching).

My whole thing is that if you want to make a video using downloaded footage, prepare to face the consequences. There's very little hope that you can make it look as good as DVD quality (unless somehow you know Avisynth filters like you know your hands) and on top of it, you are cheating people out of their money. What I've done in the past is create a video using downloaded clips and then wait until the series becomes available on DVD to completely remaster the video and then put it online.

I can understand that you *really* want to make an AMV, but you do not have to make one. Move on to another project and wait until you can get an authentic source to start the video again. I think by now you should've learned that AMVs take patience, and not everything is going to go perfectly, but think about the people here who've spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on japanese DVDs and LDs and then you're sitting back and using a dinky little file that you got for free off the internet. Ridiculous.

Wait it out. Or if you want to do the video so badly, do it and don't release it here. Many people have unreleased work that they will not put on the LOCAL server for reasons such as that. But like Sarah said, you do NOT need to do this video. This is a hobby. HOBBY. And if you are for some reason a professional AMV maker, I'm appauled that you would even *think* about using downloaded footage.
