Ideally, you don't want to start with .WMV files in the first place.

If you've got them because you're using Windows Movie Maker, try the "DV AVI (NTSC)" export option instead. This gives you a nice, big, high-quality (but not quite lossless) AVI file, suitable for converting to something else.

If the DV AVI export doesn't work... then the best you can do is make sure you're exporting to WMV with the highest possible quality/bitrate, and convert that. TMPGEnc's filters can also help with some of the macroblocking and other issues; I believe Fungie1/2's worked a lot with those.

Any time you convert from one lossy codec to another, you're going to be losing quality. That's why you always want to start with the highest-quality source you can, and make only the minimum number of conversions.

well technically every time you convert a video you lose quality whether its noticable or not
and its like what scintilla said
if you do the right procedures you might end up not sacrificing much quality
Lurid Enchantment - ICYCLOUD
urban suite - TRYTHIL
大切な思い - BAKADESHI
Expansion - RESK
