ReEncode Every Clip?

After a while i've started on my new AMV. The idea is in my head, the anime-episodes i want to use are all assembled. But the problem is that most of the episodes are all quite new. I got a few DVD-rips in DIVX format and a few fansubs in what seems to be XVID codec. Another bunch of episodes use the wmv3 codec. I'm sure i got more different codecs floating around since i am planning on using 9 series and i didn't check every episode.

But now the problem is that Adobe Premiere (i use version 7.0) doesn't recognize some divx codecs, as well as the wmv3 codecs. Now do i need to encode every episode to a codec which premiere DOES support, or is there another way to get the video's working in premiere (wmv3 and some more also don't seem to work in Vegas Video 4.0 either). Also, i've noticed that Adobe Premiere Pro 7.0 is somewhat slow and unstable. Which version do you guys recommend?

And finally, except from not loading at all, importing certain videofiles take ages and i usually cancel the import since it's taking ages. Does this have to do with using a not of half-supported codec?

*Sigh* Premiere has several problems with those codecs seeing as its really not SUPPOSED to support those as they're final distribution codecs. Buying the DVDs yourself and Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a> for tips on how to CORRECTLY use video files in Premiere.

Convert the clips you need to HuffYUV. That's the best solution.

If you're really pressed for space, you could try using AVISynth to frameserve them to Premiere instead.
