Meh...Can't say I've gotten too many twos. Then again, I haven't really gotten that many stars or downloads either.
My lowest rating is a 3.13 on my Prelude video...then again, there's only like 20-30 stars on that one. Hell, I think my videos are crap, but apparently every else likes them, so, I make 'em for the hell of it.

I wouldn't say most. I'm quite sure SOME do that but not enough to matter. From what I can tell once you get 80 to 90 stars or so the score is actually pretty balanced, a few wacko 'I hate you' (or wacko 'I love you' if you have a stalking fan) votes just aren't going to throw things off that much. Most ratings seem to be how much people really liked the video. As proof voting usually isn't personal, the star ratings I had before I was active on the forums are basically the same as I have now that I've been on the forums and proven I'm a dick.Wheee_It's_Me! wrote:He, he, he...don't be too depressed about it. Part of the fun is sharing what I've done. I don't expect nor am I trying to be the next Koop/AD/Kevin Caldwell/whoever but I like (most) of the videos I've made and put them up in case others like them. So some of these people who just make videos for fun really do just make videos for fun.Wheee_It's_Me! wrote:And all these people who are like, "just make videos for fun!"...yeah, they're lying to you and possibly to themselves. If you REALLY just made videos for fun, you wouldn't even BOTHER listing them on the .org.
I generally don't do comparisons like this, at least not in ops, but it doesn't suprise me. If I explained that something looked bad and I recommend studying xyz video to see it done right then I'm doing that to help the creator. The message would easily get muddled and intepreted as 'I'm better than you' if xyz video was my own. For that reason if I ever do this I'd do it with someone elses video to avoid misunderstandings.Wheee_It's_Me! wrote:The interesting thing you'll find with a lot of people who give you REALLY bad reviews, is that they most always use SOMEONE ELSE'S work as a basis of comparison.
Kinda. The elements that make good art are not very subjective. Either an AMV used good timing, scene choice, processing, etc or it didn't. That doesn't mean I'll like it though. I've seen plenty of videos that I thought were very well done and at the same time boring as all hell. Objectively the person did everything right but subjectively I just didn't like it. Which is why I can, and have, given reviews that were high in every catagory except for review which gets a 2 or 3.Wheee_It's_Me! wrote:Art is not subjective, that's just a lame excuse that people like to use when their deficient in skill. `, )

Ive been there before. I had a solid four star rating out of 14 reviews for a few months, then I pissed a few people off and in 2 days it droped to a three star rating out of 23 reviews.Wheee_It's_Me! wrote: He, he, he...don't be too depressed about it. I even had one guy who was so bold he even admitted to giving me a low opinion simply because he didn't like me as a person. ^_^ don't pay them much mind, most people who give you low scores are probably just jealous that they lack the talent or they're scared that your talent will surpass theirs. You know there are people who create multiple accounts just to fuck around with the star ratings.

But , lying ? .... you're generalizing
When I say , "Make vids for fun" , yes , I'm saying to the person make vids for his own fun , but not exactly *JUST* his own fun .
Ok read again "just make videos FOR fun!"... share our vids it's part of the FUN of making music videos , doesn't mean that I have to care for ratings or try to compete with somebody O_o
Nothing usefull here .

- The value of a piece of art lies in how much people cherish and enjoy it, making the value of any art piece subjective.
- A critic doesn't need to make better art than what he/she is criticizing.

Wow you're really competetive with all this. That's cool, I respect that. But why you gotta go round saying that us fun-based amvers are lying to ourselves? I came here in the first place cause I enjoyed watching AMVs, and I wanted to get to know more about them. I like chatting here with creators, getting to know the people who do this, and I love downloading their videos.Wheee_It's_Me! wrote:And all these people who are like, "just make videos for fun!"...yeah, they're lying to you and possibly to themselves. After a while I had some ideas and I wanted to make some videos. So I made them, and I posted them because I thought some other people might like them. I'm not really to fussed if I get a 1.00 star rating. Personally, I don't want to compete against anybody else. I just wanna enjoy making and sharing cool videos. (Okay, I'm still quite far from the 'cool' bit but I'm slowly working my way there.)
Through making and posting my videos I've found a better appreciation for other people's videos, and consequently I enjoy the 'scene' even more.
Maybe you enjoy the competition but that doesn't mean everyone should. I believe the goal of the site is;
That goal co-incides with both competetive and fun-based amvers. Love & Peace.Phade wrote:This is Kris (aka. Phade) and I would like to welcome you to www.AnimeMusicVideos.org. Actually I'm only competitive with one person really, but neither of us will ever really "win" per say, one of us will always be outdoing the other, it's the nature of the game. The only way one could "win" in a sense is if one of us quit. Neither of us is the type to rush our videos either.taeli wrote: Wow you're really competetive with all this.
Let me ask you something, if you could be the best, right now, produce absolutely incredible AMVs, would you want it? Unless you have absolutely no desire at all, not even the slightest dream or fancy of producing awe inspiring videos, then I might say there's some exceptions, but otherwise...*shakes head*...That's cool, I respect that. Not everyone will, some people greatly despise the competitive nature, they'll even argue against it to the last man standing, but what some people WANT to believe and the way things actually are...two entirely different things. If you really take the time to examine this community, you will find that nearly everything in it is built for the sole purpose of competition. AMVs may have been initially spawned by fan subbers having fun, but that fun has turned into one of the most fiercest art based competitions in history. Ask yourself, when was the last time that they just showed AMVs at a major convention. No awards, no prizes, no places...just, showing AMVs for the fun of it? The nature of the .org is so competitive that you can even rate the judges fer keerist sake. There is no other competitive sport I'm aware of that even does such a thing. You and anyone else is more than welcome to believe whatever you like, it doesn't change the reality of this community though.Through making and posting my videos I've found a better appreciation for other people's videos, and consequently I enjoy the 'scene' even more.

Competition *IS* fun, both are directly linked. As I've said though, believe whatever you need to, it's not really of any particular consequence to me on the whole. *shrugs*I believe the goal of the site is;

Wow and I was complaining about getting all 3s.
you want to see my current star average?
FIRST VIDEO: Spirited away: Ordinary day: 3.78
second video : Ranma 1/2 : When I'm With you: 3.84
third video: Sexy Body Cowgirls: 3.13
fourth Video: Run Away with me (Laputa) : 3.68 (though the editing is a far cry above my first 3 in quality)
fifth video: Angels Redemption: 3.88 , only slightly above my FIRST and second videos ever created, even though the quality of editing is much higher. But notice they use more popular anime. Especially ranma, I consider that my forth best video editing wise below Ordinary day, Run away with me, and Angels Redemption, yet it still holds the second place spot, and sometimes even creeps up to the #1 spot, No doubpt because of the Ranma fans ;p
Long story short: Star ratings are relative.

Hatter,
I'm just in it for the free hosting. Honestly, if right now someone offered me the key to making the most incrediblicious video in the world, I wouldn't take it. I like making videos, which is why I make them. I never make videos purely for contests, and I only submit to them when someone asks me too. I see star ratings and opinions as a simple bonus to being a member of this community. I guess that's the difference between you and me.
