adding 1

Post by CaTaClYsM » Wed May 26, 2004 9:11 am

I don't know if it's been suggested yet, but since the idea is so incredibly stupid I doubt it occured to anyone to even suggest it.

add an 11 to the 1 to 10 rating system. The 11 would represent the best they've ever seen. And here's the good part, only allow each user to give ONE 11 per ratable category. only one 11 for originality, one eleven for video quality, one eleven for reviewability. So when they are giving out the 11s they actually have to stop and think about which AMV is deserving of the almighty 11. And will probably put some balance back into the rating system by counteracting the straight 10 reviews.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

TobinHood offers yet another searing insight.

Sew whut happinz wen u f1nd ah n3w b3st3st v1d30 EVA!!!!???!?

*ahem*

I mean what if you find a video that tops the video that you granted the almighty 11s too, and *IT* becomes the best video you've ever seen? Then you'd have to go to all of those videos you gave 11's to and edit them, etc. etc. etc.

What a pain in the ass.

Now would this 11 be factored into the new system and automatically disregarded as being outside the average? If so, there's not much point unless a vid gets an average of 11s from everyone reviewing it. And what's to stop a person from making multiple accounts in order to give multiple 11s - you'd have to factor out the 11 to prevent that the same way we're now factoring out the 1s and 10s (or low and high scores).

Instead of another number, why not factor something *else* into the score? Like the vid's rank on someone's favorite list, or an average of the positions for those that get listed a lot. Or even just a bonus for each time that vid is marked by someone.

It wouldn't hurt those videos with thousands of reviews since they'd just be getting higher from it. And chances are it would help out the newer vids that just don't have enough reviews to matter with the new 'averaging' system.

That is, of course, assuming they want to change things. I don't think they do.

10's the top... If you think a video is the best you've ever seen you give it a 10.

=\ someone just wants to make euphoria's score go to 10.67 :P.

In order to give a video a straight 11 review, someone would have to setup NINE accounts. And as is most reviewers that give straight 1s or 10's are pretty damn lazy. And yes rewiews are going to get edited more often, but at the same time they're going to have to take the scores they give much more seriously. And no, 11's are not meant to be disregarded under any circumstances.

and Tobin, the 10's are not meant for the best you've ever seen, and it doesn't say that anywhere. At it's most scrutinized people look at a 10 as supossed to mean perfect. And more than one vid can meet a persons standard of perfection. CHanging it so each person could only give one 10 in each category would be logical, but if the reviews were changed to relect that then things would get pretty hairy since that would mean all the reviews of vids with 10s in them are going to need to be redone and royaly fuxx0r the top 10% list. and Phade would need to rewrite the calculation script to not disregard 10s. Instead this is much simpler. It adds a new option for those who put thought into their videos without dicking around too much with the current review system. And at the same time kills fanboyism in it's tracks since the kind of person that gives ONE review with nothing but tens is more than likely to give the same ratings to another vid he or she happens to see but with this they can't run around doing that anymore. The more I think about it the better this idea sounds.
