Anime at the movies

Well, I have seen better live-action pieces and domestic animation from time to time, but they're few and far between. What I like best about so many animes is how they tend to have a less simplistic view of things than Hollywood and TV do.

With Hollywood movies and TV, live-action or animated, the villain is nearly always mindlessly evil, crazy, or both. The hero is always the really cool guy, or the geek who's on his way to being a really cool guy. In anime, heros and villains are often harder or nearly impossible to tell apart. The heros sometimes act in ways that make us doubt whether they're really heros, and the villains are usually quite convinced that they're the ones doing heroic deeds; they're not just doing bad deeds because the plot requires someone to do them.

Ironically, this makes a lot of animes I've seen, however fantastic, a lot more realistic than most of the live-action stuff.

Ironic that "live action" characters are so 2-dimensionally flat, predictable, and boring...while 2D characters have more depth and personality making them far more real and believable.

this thread is short (at the moment anyway..) and i think it already accomplished what it set out to do within it's 1 page (assuming my post stays on the first page)

so yeah, basically anime is NOT really better than TV or movies because duh.. they ARE TV and movies, just that we importers of anime tend to watch them at home off of a DVD or VHS, so it SEEMS like a different experience, but it's still just japanese tv or a japanese movie, so we view it as different cause it's not normal for us

but the content in anime has a different approach to the viewer than the content in american animation or live-action TV or movies, so they are still different because they come from different backgrounds.. however intermingled they may be.. i like anime's content better traditionally, but hollywood has made their own pretty little diamonds within their mound of crap

also remember, what does japan usually export? their crap or their gold? we typically will only see their sucessful anime, just like i'm sure that other countries don't usually import our multitude of crap movies we've made, just our good ones... typically

My movie theater showed the Cowboy Bebop movie...but I had only just started getting into anime, and I wasn't that interested in going to see it. I have friends who went. I hope they bring over more anime movies...I'd like to see a few.

I know GITS2 is getting a late summer theaterical release. Though I've yet to see any theater lists or show dates.

American cartoons seem to be centered more around comedy now-a-days more then anything else. (Can't blame 'em. Probably the #1 business in the US.) Probably why people who're looking for a deeper storyline, or those who're not afraid to endure some cartoon blood for a decent show, watch anime. Not every show is a gem, but, due to the "Filtration" system that most dubbing companies have (Basically, if its big there or if its already recognized here), most of the stuff we watch is the cream of the crop. (Yea, I know I just copied Daio Kaji in that last part)

Wish my movie theater would show anime movies. Unfortunately I live in a little city, where otaku are small in numbers and hid in fear of having small rocks thrown at them.

So you seriously, after much thought, still think that every. single. solitary. character. in. anime - the aforementioned Beyblade, MD Geist, ohhh let's see, every knockoff of Gundam, every hentai movie, EVERY SINGLE ANIME CHARACTER EVER PUT TO FILM... every background dude with one line, every comedic sidekick, every random cute animal...

is "deeper" and "less predictable" than every single character ever, ever put to live-action film?
