Considering the scope of life, dont you think a persons opinion is insignificant? If you cant learn to brush off negative remarks, your never gonna be happy in this worldshishlik wrote:me poor newb
so what???
i still can get better i just got alot to learn so you don't need to criticize that much i just wanted some opinions but i guess i shouldn't post anything here to you bunch of assholes
all you do is critisize and i had enough of that shit
i already said i wana get beeter so i guess i have a good reason and i know i suck
that's how i start...nothing to do about it.
i was kinda hoping for tips and instead i get only critisizes.
couldn't you save that for your god damned selves?
randome anime? that was all dbz as much as i could see at the time i made it.
i've seen wrost in here that you haven't critisized as much!!!
so take that you scum i had enough of your insultes you don't even deserve to watch any dbz video made by me or anything else i make.
you don't even deserve this stinking comment. youre just the people that saw a dbz AMV that they didn't like and came right back to insult me for making you watch it
if i'll listen to your crap i'll lose taste of making amvs forever and i don't think that's the way to give you opinion about an amv
your just discrace to all the people who watch anime.
so stop and ask yourself wasn't i ever a newb?
did i start making amvs without any help? from nothing?
that's all i have to say.
hope my next commenters wouldn't be people like you....
shit you ruined my day

dont get me wrong, i still like to watch DBZ vids, im one of the few who do... and i dont get to see all of them... so i dont catch the really crappy ones... but i didnt just sit here and say "thats the worst POS in the world, go shoot yourself" i gave you pointers on whats wrong with the video... your never going to get anywhere in making amvs if you cant take a bad op! i've recieved HUNDREDS of ops just like this.. when i was first starting.. and now i like to think that i have improved, because i looked at what they had to say, said fuck the bad, and anything helpful, i worked on...thats what you need to do if you want to continue to make amvs andif you want to improve, i suggest that you read what i said, take in everything helpful, and ignore the rest!shishlik wrote:waaaaaaaaaaa!xianpower wrote:Im a firm believe in wwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!AMV_4000 wrote:hey, he posted this in here, and i figured it was good enough, i dont like to PM people, if they post a bad video and ask people to watch it, then i will subject them to my opinion, even if its the crappiest opinion i have.. atleast i didnt op it and drag his scores down.. noob or not, thats my op..Brain-Carnival wrote:@AMV_4000: ur post is so damn unnecessary...if u've something to criticize, do it, but not in that way. I like them both, and I even like them together if done well. I just refuse to reinstall realplayer, so I can't watch this.AMV_4000 wrote:.. most of us here dont like DBZ or LP.. so we dont want to see anymore vids..

And I guess that makes me them. ;p
It's not that everyone hates the anime, it's just that many people use dbz when they first start making amvs because it's so accessible - easy to get your hands on footage to use. That means there are a lot of 'first time' vids out there that just don't look very good. And it makes people dismiss the lot of them as 'crap' just because of the anime. Not everyone does it, though, and technically no one is allowed to flame you for the anime used - they just don't enforce the rules very often. The main thing is for you to get some detailed feedback on a video before you churn out a few dozen (speaking from experience). If you have anything in a different format (anything but rm or qt), you can probably get a detailed review pointing out not just the problems, but how to *fix* them. I know amv_4000 listed the problems, but he didn't say anything on how to fix them other than not to do it again - that's pretty vague.
I haven't watched the vid, but chances are a little 'general' advice would help here. First - quality. Use a different format, if you can't use anything else with the editor you made this with, find a different editor (wmm works fine, though it's dubbed the 'newbie' editor by default). Don't use downloaded clips - there is a guide on how to rip footage from your dvds on the member main page. If you *have* to use downloaded footage, be selective and learn to crop and clean them in VirtualDub. You might be surprised how useful it is. When it comes to the actual editing, plan the vid out ahead of time. If you just get a mess of clips and throw them all together without any outline to go by, it's going to be random. Write out the lyrics (or get a copy of them) and mark down what scenes or sagas or episodes you want to match up with each line. Listen to the song a few times till you note all those neat beats and shifts in the music and imagine what scenes would look great lined up with those. Then, when you're actually making the vid, pay attention to the beats. If you're using something like windows movie maker 2.0, then the audio timeline will *show* you the beats as spikes. Practice making your cuts so the scenes change right as those beats fall. Then, when you've gotten that down as 'natural,' start working on your in-clip action sync - having movements inside a longer clip fall right as the beat does - this isn't as cut and dry as the 'beat=cut' style, but it can look even better depending on the song. Play with your effects - you don't have to, but if you want flashy pleasing vids, effects seem to be popular these days. Even wmm comes with a horde of effects, and you can experiment with your own if you use things like Photoshop or even just VirtualDub.
And ask questions if you're curious. If you want vids to compare yours to, or ones that will show you certain styles of editing, then ask around. Check the top lists for the 'action' vids if you are wanting to make something like that. It will give you an idea of how others do it - and the more you watch that are 'good' (according to the scores), the wider your experience is. That means you'll have seen more videos that do lots of different things, and you can either practice immitating those (till you get the 'basics' of editing down), or look around and think of something new that you *haven't* seen. It's always great to have your own style, but unless you watch a lot of vids, you'll never know if it's really yours or if you just haven't seen the others that do the same thing.
As for originality - if the video has good timing, good quality, and hopefully a story (I like stories, but they aren't a requirement), then it doesn't matter how many times the anime/song combination has been used. There are lots of dbz fans, lots of lp fans, and lots who would enjoy watching a 'good' video using that combination. The only problem is making it good - doesn't have to be great, but the more you practice the better you'll do.

Nope, don't know of a guide aside from the 'subtitle removal' guide (found in the 'guides' section on the member main page), I don't remember how 'detailed' it goes on it. To crop, you go to 'video,' 'filters' and click 'null transform' - make sure to crop in multiples of 4 or even 8 if you're going to be saving to huffyuv. Other good filters - the 'smooth' filter, this will smother some of the noise in a vid, and if you add a filter like this, you can do your cropping right there (without having to add anything else) - click the 'crop' button when you go to add the filter. Deinterlace - this is mostly a problem if you rip your own footage, but if the footage has horizontal lines in it, it needs to be deinterlaced, this is another good filter.shishlik wrote:forgot to ask...
how do i crop with virtuadub?
i tried to work with it and had trouble with it
do you know of any guide that can help me?
Mostly just play around with the 'filters' section and save your clips to huffyuv if you have the space to do that - it will make the quality better once you edit that footage and compress it again. If you have trouble opening a vid in Vdub, you'll need to go to the 'all things audio and video guide' on the member main page and download the avisynth package. You can use an avisynth script to open wmvs and old formats of avis. For things like rm, you'll have to convert them - EO video works nicely for this.

I completely agree with you Joykiller, if you want to make a video with something that's overused. It's all up to you. I would make a video to something I liked no matter what someone said. I'm just stating that this IS the reason why no one wants to watch it.Joykiller wrote:Ok look... I love to flame the shit out of a Linkinball Z video just as much as anyone else, and have many times before. But for some reason that just REALLY struck me wrong. I'm actually going to have to make a serious post now, thanks alot!shishlik wrote:lol
but i am making a new AMV with a not too familiar song
so i guess it wount happen again
p.s.
is blink o.k?(not that im making an AMV for any song of theirs but im just wondering![]()
I don't give a shit if there are 10 million AMVs done to linkin park and dragonball. All that means is that it's a retardedly popular thing for people to make. But reguardless of that, I wouldn't listen to ANYONE telling me that I *shouldn't* make a video done to a song that I like and an anime that I like. It's not your fault that everyone and their mother feels it nessesary to make videos using that combination is it?
Now granted I feel that linkin park is overplayed to shit, and Dragonball is a completely rancid anime in every way I can imagine, but if for whatever ungodly reason I decided to make an AMV to the combination, I'll be damned if I'm gonna listen to a bunch of dumb fucks telling me that I shouldn't do it. I'll make the video anyway. Fuck what they think about it.
And furthermore, I don't feel the need to appologize or make excuses for making what I feel to be some pretty cool shit, and then putting it out there for others to enjoy. Do you?
There's no point in lowering yourself to the point of asking people if it's alright to make a vid to (whatever music/anime). It just shouldn't matter in my opinion.
I hope that you didn't come into this whole thing with the idea that making AMVs was gonna make you cool somehow. Anyone here will attest that's not true. If anything it just makes you an even bigger dork. (or maybe that's just the case for me....) I'm sure that you got the idea to make AMVs the same way everyone else prolly did. You like music, You like anime, the combination of the two seems like a great idea!!! So remember that when you're making your vids. It's a form of expression, not a job that you need to taylor to what you think everyone else wants.
Ok, I feel better now. Going back to my usual self. ^_^

From what I here it's crap though

Bottom line is - if you want to make a video to something - do so. Plain and simple. Even if it IS the most overused stuff. I did my first video with KOHD and Staind...so trust me, I know in the beggining that you have to gain patience, will power, and originality in order to really make a nice video.
Just keep trying man. That's all I can tell ya. Keep working at it and you'll get better and better. Take your time too...I cannot stress that enough. If you don't put real time into making the video you'll see it. So DON'T ignore it like I did on my first video. Just go back and go through all the crap just to change one frame - it's important. It'll show that you're a respectable editor at least in one sense.
So to sum things up.
1. Take your time.
2. If you really want people to watch your video. And that's only if you want them to, do something more original. It doesn't have to be completely new, just somewhat original, editing, etc.
3. If you can - use dvd ripped footage for quality.
I hope that people here haven't discouraged you from AMV editing...they're just so tired of seeing the same thing most of the time. And I wouldn't want to lose a fellow editor that could have potential. So try again, and don't give up.
