Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

the bad editing shows through the way you neglected the text. those words obviously meant something about the video, why else would he put them in? so you think the movie is good because of something you did to make it seem better. you chose to like this video, and that's not my problem. i wish i could like it, would've saved a bunch of text.
nailz1000 wrote:I wish I had the video here in front of me, so I could go over some of the concepts, well, actually, I don't, because if you didn't see or feel them, then that’s your problem.
no, it's cj's problem for not being able to get the point across better. this video (from what i gather) is all about relaying an emotion. there was no emotion that i saw. just a bunch of pictures of rei that had little to nothing to do with the hardly readable text being displayed. it's really well construction and attention to detail, but i think that's what masked the emotion. he spent too much time fixated on getting this done and where specific piano keys came in on the audio rather than feeling what that emotion was and describing it to himself better. all this would've relayed back into the video and made it that much better.

i'm just trying to help. step back for a minute cj and realize that your video is the one being critiqued, not your skills. those change every minute of every day, so it's impossible to say for certainty that they 'suck' because at any given time they could become awesome. this video isn't going to change for a long time (unless you do something about that text), so i can establish on fair grounds that i do not like it. i'm sorry, but that's the way i feel. you've made other videos i've liked, so that seems kind of strange to insinuate i'm insulting you based on my hatred for your ability to make music videos.

either way, i didn't want to insult you. i feet this video is bad and was trying to get you to realize why i felt this way. i guess it came out really fucking wrong for you to have taken it so personally.

The bit about the text is a very good point. It is, at times, very difficult to read. It would have been better if it was done with more contrast. Case in point, the "Delicate" quote. I had to pause it the second time through to read it entirely.

Another thig I noticed was near the end. Several shots got reused in a short timeframe under the "A Friend" heading. The one that stood out, really, was the shot where Rei had those (I don't know what to call them) under her suit.

It's a great vid, though.

a lot of people wrote: ... sweeet video, had hard to read text, but seemed overall good ...
btw, flow or unity if you want to look at it that way can be established through repetition too, so it does technically have flow... just not the kind of flow that people are used to
Kamoc wrote: ... the video sux imo, it was seizureistic and had hard to read text, not original at all... wow... pictures flashing to a song, big friggin woopie! ...
well AMVs are just that anyway, pictures flashing to match song beats
the difference here is that, a slideshow first-of-all is very original imo for an AMV, regular videos have pictures that move on their own to fill up space on the timeline, cj on the other hand used stills and had to find emotional stills to be able to give the viewer a sense of whatever feeling he's trying to convey here with character expressions and using interesting quotations

In some ways this type of video is easier than a regular AMV, in some ways, it's harder, pros and cons like everything else
so saying that, i can agree with Kamoc that this video could have been better done, enough to clearify the text and lessen the flashes of the images, but since there was a time constraint, i think the results are commendable

You know you could just let this thread die, that's almost as good as being locked.
