Shonen ai vid (GW)

Post by Arigatomina » Sun Jan 04, 2004 5:09 pm

Warning: If you didn't read the title, this vid is shonen ai, meaning guy/guy romance. Don't watch this if you know that squicks you.

This is a Gundam Wing video featuring the Trowa/Quatre and Heero/Duo pairings. It's soft and a bit angsty, but sweet. If anyone knows of any other 3x4 vids, please let me know. ^_^

Wow, digital effects!

Someone's getting all professional.
If nothing else, harsh noises get your attention.

Heh. ^_^;

No, not really effects - just fades and tweaking the zoom a bit. I'm still more for character movement (inside the clips) than effects. I barely did any color changes with this vid at all. ;p

I think so, but then, I've been wanting to see a 3x4 vid for years now. I'm biased. ^.~

Aside that this is a shonen ai AMV :roll:

Your editing is good enough to don't be necessary too many effects , and for a drama/romance vid , the number of effects in this vid are ok IMO ^^
I liked it the last part of your vid when you've used (zoom?)effects synced with the drums beats

Nice job :wink:
Nothing usefull here .

Yeah, this song just strikes me as soft, I just can't see putting effects into it. They'd distract from the footage (at least for me).

Heh, I was thinking of that as a 'heartbeat' type movement. Glad you liked. ^_^

Lost in Translation

Post by paulrowe » Wed Jan 07, 2004 10:24 pm

How does "shonen ai" become "guy/guy romance"? It looks to me (without seeing the kanji) that it is 少年 愛 (though this would be "shounen ai"), which would literally be translated as "little year love". This gives me the impression of two children having a romance (which is becoming more common in the media today).

Someone want to explain this to me?

I don't know my kanji, but the romanji for shonen = boy, and ai = love. And for doujinshi (made in Japan) and many anime, they describe boy/boy or male/male romances as shonen ai. Yaoi is for the explicite stuff since it may or may not involve any 'love' (or emotions at all besides lust). ^_^;

Having found the kanji...

Post by paulrowe » Thu Jan 08, 2004 12:47 am

Apparently, I had the right kanji but flubbed a little on the translation. If you look at the <A HREF="http://rut.org/cgi-bin/j-e/jis/tty/S=48 ... inition</A> that JEDI has for the kanji, it specifies boys (followed by juveniles). This is somewhat in accordance with my translation, but the clarification of "boys" indicates that such is probably the normal translation of the kanji.

Thus, this gives me the impression of a boy/boy relationship. In similar fashion, as juveniles are not expected to (nor should they) have more involved interpersonal interaction, it could be applied to "light" yaoi relationships (those that don't cross certain lines).

Thanks for your response. It got my mind cranking enough that I could flush out the thoughts properly.
