Three days can be 45 hours (or more for some who don't need the usual 8hrs sleep). I don't believe it takes 450 hours (a month) to make a good amv - even the best most perfect astounding entirely original amv in the world. I'd hope almost anyone would be able to animate 4 minutes of footage from scratch in under 450 hours.

As for the question - some people say it's difficult because if it weren't...then they'd have no excuse for not being great at it. So long as it's something only those who'll put a year or two into (5400+ hours), they can say "I just don't have the time to devote a few years to 4 minutes of footage". It's the same reason you must be rich to make a good amv - because if it were cheap then everyone should be able to make them. This way, you have a great excuse. I can't make great amvs because I don't have years and thousands of dollars to blow on 3min 58 sec of viewing pleasure. I can't afford Premiere so I can't make great amvs. I can't afford to buy every anime in the world, so I can't make great amvs. It's just far too difficult for the average person.

It's about how much time you want to put into a video. If you want to spend 400+ hours tweaking twenty seconds of a video, there's nothing that says you can't do that. I've done it before.

Difficulty is not a justification; AMVing is as difficult as you want to make it.

It's as expensive as you want to make it. Nobody said you had to pay thousands of dollars for software and hardware to make a good video.

Well, I don't believe that, anyway.

Neither do I. I was being sarcastic because people *do* say you have to have the best to make a good amv. They *do* say you can't make a good amv in a few days. They *do* say you can't make a good amv unless you use Premiere and spend months on it.

Not everyone says this, no, but a lot of people do. And they aren't saying "it takes this for me to make one" - they're saying no one can do it unless....etc. Look around - you see someone say "I spent 4 days on this" and the automatic response is "four days? Ha, I spent 3 months on my last one." Or "yeah, any loser can pop out a vid every 3 days if they want to have bad vids". And that's not to even mention the old "you didn't use premiere? no wonder your vids suck" comments.

I don't believe it either, but I do think part of the reason people think you have to use the best, and you have to put in endless hours is to explain why their own work may be flawed. It's the easy way out.
