Wow, I didn't even think about that. I had tried to keep the references to other editors as controlled as possible (on Lain's dad's monitors, top-left is Ashyukun's site, top-right is the original splashpage for my site, which has since been replaced). Looks like you got a freebie =)

Highly amusing, but at times the words went by kinda fast (as I think someone on this thread already said). Nice semi-surprise ending.

I really have to see Lain one of these days...

First off... what's with the Lain footage in your video, dokool? Either the IVTC is totally off, or you've got bootleg discs... I dunno. It was EXTREMELY funky looking. Willow's video is a much better indication of what Lain is supposed to look like... I'm totally at a loss. It's not the bitrate, it's not the filesize... *shrugs*. Kinda weird : /

Videos about making videos have been done before, so it's kinda strange to compare one video to another that have just recently been completed (although since they used the same show, that makes sense to compare them). Big Big Truck's "<A HREF="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... 65">Failed Experiments in Video Editing</A>" is the first that I'm aware of, with <A HREF="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... =24415">my own DDR track from this past project</A> being the next I'm aware of.

Not that anyone here was claiming to BE the first, but I just thought I should mention it.

Both of the videos kinda seem to poke at other videos in their title to gain attention, but dokool... your video has three other video titles in it, none of which relate to the content of your video in any way, shape, or form. Quite honestly, on the outside, it just seems like you're trying to boost attention to yours by leeching off those videos' popularity levels.

I enjoyed both videos, but I think I actually liked Willow's a little more. The word bubbles, as Rozard mentioned, were really distracting when they were moving around. Word bubbles aren't supposed to move :P. I understand what you were going for, but I don't think it worked, in the long run.

Maybe I should just write reviews, instead :P

Define "funky looking". I have the R1s... I'd say chalk it down to IVTC, but nobody else has complained about video quality so far. I followed AD's guide to the letter, including 24->23.976FPS and correct TMPEGEnc settings.

Eh... ultimately, that's your call. Maybe the title is a statement on cliches, as I mentioned in the video information. I wasn't intending to step on the toes of giants, as it were. It was more of a case of coming up with the title, thinking "hey, that's funny!" then thinking "...now how can I make the video fit?" In my mind, the story fits, and that's really all that matters.

Had any of the three editors objected to the vid (and all three *were* shown preliminary versions before I put it on the site), I might have considered delaying the site release or even not putting it online altogether. However, all three approved (I have AIM logs for Bogo and AD's quotes, and doki's quote comes from a comment to my LJ), and thus I decided it was okay.

As far as other people's "AMVs on AMVing..." I would put your DDR segment in a different category than mine, as it's more specific, relating to DDR videos instead of AMVs in general. I've only seen Failed Experiments once (at the Otakon 2003 AMV panel), and it wasn't an influence on my work. Nor have I seen Willow's vid, so I can't comment on it either.

I didn't really like it, not due to any technical flaw because I don't care too much about that.

I just think that making a music video based on an unfunny internet schtick is the most absurd thing one can do. But I seem to be in the minority with my thoughts, so don't feel bad.

Things like this. I saw these frames in motion throughout the entire video, and it was kinda jarring. Did you use some sort of "ghosting" effect, and I'm just not understanding why? It didn't look fluid at all (not due to the speed changes). Just curious, really, because I <B>know</B> "Lain" doesn't look like this.

I'm not saying you didn't have permission, or didn't ask first. I'm just saying that I don't get it. The title doesn't really seem to serve a purpose other than using other videos' popularity to get attention; I don't see anything in the video that reflects the sentiments of the title. Not that this is "good" or "bad" in any way... just an observation.

Who knows... the HuffYUV clips look fine... I see a bit of this "ghosting" in the compiled HuffYUV file that I had convered to 23.976... I'd blame the telecining process and leave it at that =/

Lain is historically very difficult to IVTC. It's a mixed source, part film part pure ntsc. Not pretty.
