No Clue Why.

Alright, I try to download some videos, but when I try to play them, it just says its filename where the video should be. Anyone know why? Thanks.

Hi, this thread would be better off in the Video Software Help forum for future reference. The moderators will probably move this there, and just remember to post in the correct forum next time.

As for your problem, I haven't experienced such a thing before.. but here are some questions to help us help you out:

What video player do you use (such as Windows Media Player) ? What type of videos, codecs, and file extensions do you have trouble playing? If you're playing a specific type of codec (such as DivX), are you aware if you have the codec to play the file?

Ok, liiiiiittle bit more info would help a bunch here.
For example, what codecs were the videos compressed in, what media player are you using to watch the videos, can you hear the audio, does the player give you an error message when you try and play the videos or is it just 'insert file name here' on your screen?

Also, for future reference, questions like this are better suited for one of these forums.

If your using windows media player then in all likelyhood you need the codec the video was compressed in or directshow filter to playback the file. The most common used here at the org are xvid and divx

I recommend ffdshow

ffdshow's Sourceforge project page wrote:ffdshow is DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing DIVX and XVID movies using libavcodec or xvid with rich set of video postprocessing filters. ffdshow can also be used as a separate postprocessing filter for other decoders.

Try updating your codecs for your media players, that should solve your problems.

Yep, if you get this error in Windows Media Player it's the codecs - you can always hop over to http://www.doom9.org and pick up the 'Gordian Knot Codec Pack' from the Download section - should give you most everything you need for the avi files.

Buf if you're getting this error in Winamp3 check the file to make sure it downloaded completely. Incomplete files will only read as the title - and if it's an mpeg2 file you'll only get the title (as if it's a corrupt file). In this case, check the file or just switch players. ^_^;
