What is a good opinion to you?

Post by SSJVegita0609 » Thu Oct 23, 2003 10:29 pm

Do you like opinions that are as honest as possible? That focus more on the negative/positive? Do you like opinions for the words or the scores? Do you like opinions that are long and detailed, or brief but concise? Tell me how you like your ops.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

I like opinions that that reduce the overall average...

Long and detailed, so I can tell exactly what they liked and disliked about the video. That's how I do mine. I'm all for honesty.

If they loved the video, I want to know why.
If they want to burn their computer for ever downloading it, I'd pay them to tell me why. 8)

Long, detailed, and brutaly honest.

Thats the way I always try to make mine at least. I always like good scores of course, and someone who gives your video all 10's doesn't really need to do a whole lot of explaining.

However, people that give 4's 5's, and 6's (me) need to thoroughly explain why the score is so low. As long as people give time stamps about what the liked, what they didn't like, I can dig it.

The way I write opinions is just to give a play-by-play of the entire video and give my thoughts about each scene or section. This very long most of the times because I always bitch about something.

I think its ridiculous that most everyone here inflates their scores so much. I've got several reviews from people who hated the videos and they still gave me 8's and 9's. So in theory theres only a 2-3 numerical difference between something you think is lame, and your favorite video of all time? Thats absurd to me. The difference between the number one video on the org and the average is only something like 3.5. It doesn't make sense, and I think its offensive to the creators.

So in short, everyone needs to be like me Image

These (hope I linked it right) are some of the best ops I have ever received. Very (almost too) long, and quite detailed. Although I think the scores are somewhat Nerfed, but you won't hear me bitch. MMMmmmmmmmm score-licious. Another good one is Omni's op of SBN.

My favorite op...er....s are (in no particular order): OmniStrata, Arigatomyna, wolf_hunter and Braveliver. They all giver very good, insanely detailed ops.

it doesn't need to be too long, but it should tell me something i didn't know about my video. it should tell me what was going through the viewer's head and heart while watching the video and give specific references.
but most importantly it should help me improve.

still, i'm one of those people who considers any review better than no review.

I'm not that picky about the reviews I get now. I love the detailed ones, but I'm just as happy to get brief feedback about a vid - so long as it isn't an pointless flame.

As far as details go, I like the reviews that point out the parts they liked or thought were good as well as the ones they thought were bad. But if I had to choose, I'd rather have the person point out all the bad aspects - if you say you like a vid, and then point out the few parts that you didn't like, I don't think you need to pick out every single cut (and I can't imagine people doing that for some of my vids - that would be a lot of short cuts and 'yes, no, what was that, not bad' comments for each and every clip. I'm more of a general 'theme' type person.

If a video is really bad, I think it's great to get someone who will pick it apart and point out every possible area of improvement (and actually explain why it's off and how I might fix it). That's how I tend to do my reviews - if the video has a lot of 'trouble areas' then I'll do a play-by-play commentary to help as much as possible. If the vid seems to be good and has a few spots that seem off, then I only mark those specific problems and stick with general comments about the rest.

I think you can say 'it's too slow' without marking every cut and saying 'too long' to each one. In cases like that, brief but concise comments are fine with me.

But again, I'm not particular on what sort of reviews I get these days. ^_^ I love the long ones, but as long as the person explains the scores (in the case of very low scores) and is upfront about the way he/she took the video, I'm happy. I'm feedback junkie.

[And I'm not an expert editor, so I tend to give more detailed reviews (play-by-play) where I think my advice will be of some help. With great vids I have little to say aside from praise - and I don't see much point in marking every single cut if I think they're all great - I just note my favorites and call it a day.]

Even though it made me feel bad at the time, I think EC's was the review that I liked the most. Koop, MJ, and Ari all wrote some pretty good ones too.

So I think I just like the ones that are honest more than anything.

I have yet to get an MJ op. Which is kind of funny considering I figured he would be all over my newest.
