It depends. If you learn something from the video, then sure it is. If you threw something together, you don't have all that much time to learn anything new.

I guess that's a mean example, but it still applies. Similar to what Pie Row said, you choose to learn or not. If you don't challenge yourself with your videos and do the same thing over and over till it's nearly a routine, then you'll stay stagnant and create the same quality videos (ala DBZ example).

I would say true, for the most part.

But much like everyone else is saying, one has to strive for improvement. It won't just magically appear after your 4th or 5th vid, you have to want to improve and study the videos of others. However likewise you can't just start off making the worlds greatest works of art. One has to have a starting point, but there does not necessarily have to be a stopping point. So yes, you can learn by making more and more videos.

It's not the anime/song you work with, it's what you do with that combination.

Anyway, I think you learn if you try something new with each video (editing-wise) or if you learn with practice (getting cuts down quicker, improving your sense of timing and flow - especially for action/quick paced vids). I don't care what I'm making (DBZ or Night Walker = done before or 1 vid on the org [mine]) - I get something out of the editing process whether it's more experience or trying out a new trick.

Does that mean each vid is better than the last? No. But I can look at each vid I've made and note what changed after I made it as far as my editing style goes.

Agreed. I still think my 4th video (Glory of Love) is my best video and I've made 8. Doesn't mean I'm not learning and improving though.

For me, absolutely.

Every vid I have or am working on has presented new challenges, and expanded my knowledge and abilities in some way.

Technical, artistic, or just becoming more familiar with how to use my software, it's all good for something.

I think that experience allows us to learn, but it's not a given. Just like in a class, no matter what's being taught, you won't learn anything unless you pay attention. One can choose to simply go through the motions of making a video and be satisfied with remaining at that same level. Or, one can strive to achieve better quality, and really look into ways in which to improve. At the core, it's mostly a matter of your drive to succeed.

Yep, I definately learn on every video that I make. Even if I don't try to go for some new fancy effects, I learn a little about timing, about art and scene choice, etc.
