What's up with blatantly uncreative titles?
Scanning the "New Vid on the Block" list has become a downright depressing habit. Why is it that no one can seem to think of any title for their video besides "(Anime) -- (song title) -- (artist [optional])"? I suppose it's the same fanfoy-with-a-computer thing going. But even if the video's not that great, they could at least give us some kind of catchy title (examples: "Who Let the 'Fros Out?", "Right Now Someone is Reading This Title", "The World Was Never Enough", "Behind the Pirate").
Is it just me?
Is it just me?

I wonder how many of so-titled AMV's also exhibit a lack of focus/theme/cohesiveness? It's rather hard to come up with a title for something that is not well-developed if you don't already have something in mind before the project is started. (Note: Not saying all AMV's with "catchy" titles are focused/themed/cohesive or otherwise superior to simply-titled ones).
Ugh, political correctness chafes and is becoming a pervasive part of even opinionated statements. Two years ago I would never have bothered with that "Note"

AMV Progress:
"D-Me" (default title until something cooler occurs to me) - uh... this one's still in the "I wanna make it" stage, but did get to 5% at one point.

I think the titles with anime and song listed in them are a bit much, but I still use titles relating to the song - or the song title itself sometimes. It really depends on the video. If the theme itself *is* given by the title of the song, I see no reason to make some catchy title that has nothing at all to do with the video. I like to title vids with a short phrase that tells you what the video is about. For instance, with my Eye to Eye video, I merely reproduced the song title - no, not original. But the theme of the video is silent communication through eye contact - and 'Eye to Eye' sounds a little better than 'Silent Communication'.
On the other hand, for my 'Runaway' vid, the theme was running to death, so 'Suicide' was more appropriate as a title that tells what the video is about without saying something original but quaint like 'Hiei has a death wish' - hello, you can only be so corny with titles.
I like things simple, and so long as the title reflects the theme of the video, I don't care if it's the song title or a certain phrase from the chorus (since many vids are planned so the theme matches the song). I want people to be able to look at the listing (anime, song) and know what theme the combination is using in the video before they go to the trouble of downloading it. For instance, with my 'Fallen' vid it's a reference to the song (Brutal Planet), but more importantly it focuses on fallen angels *on* the ruined world - that simple one-word title says plenty without being flashy or cheap. I know titles are supposed to be 'attention-getters,' but as far as I'm concerned, the anime and song are the attention getters. I don't go around downloading vids based on some interesting sounding title - I take the anime and song and if the title tells me how the song is used (the theme), then I may check out the vid description to find out more about it.
I'm the same way with most things (fanfiction, books, movies) - most of my favorite books have two word titles that are simple and direct (Beauty, The Stand, Harry Potter - highly original fiction with a very unoriginal title being the name of the main character, the same for Oliver Twist - a classic). I favor simplicity, easy to remember titles that state in 3 words or less what the video is about. It doesn't reflect my lack of creativity - I do it on purpose.
