Not bad for a first video. There is obviously a lot to work on since just about no one starts off making perfect videos, but it's a good start~!

You've got a good sense of mood and while the effects selected didn't really fit for the most part, you actually had some nice atmosphere and decent dynamic. You brought the video down and made it super moody when it needed to be and when the chorus kicked in you set it into action mode.

One thing that I kept expecting the video to evolve into was a dual character profile. First it seemed like you were going to kick it off with Bluehair McAngry and then introdouce RedhairMcAngry for the "One in the same" type of concept but then that didn't happen. And then Bluehair McMaincharacter showed up and I'm like "Oooh, is he going to do it with him? Oh..no... .-." The song was begging for either more in depth on the character beyond a guy that plays basketball and is really mean looking or a dual character profile that showed the length these players are willing to go to do win, even if it means becoming what they hate (each other! demons! one in the same! get it? :D).
One thing that is a challenge for editors old and new is taking yourself out of the editing mindset and looking at it as someone who has never seen the video before. You know what every single scene means and why you chose to put it there, but will a viewer who hasn't seen the show or maybe isn't super familiar with your concept be able to follow and understand? This is where beta testers come in for future projects though :P

Beyond that, fun tech fact~! Vegas will automatically frameblend any scene that is sped up faster than 23.976 and you have to turn that off by disabling the resample on each clip. I'll PM you about how to do that the easy way though.

THERE, I FUCKING COMMENTED. YOUR VIDEO SUX. GO KILL URSELF.

Welcome to the Org, keep it up! ;D

Wow, after spending so much time on this all you can do is bash on it and tell me how incomplete it is?
I didn't know the AMV community was this hostile towards new editors!
I'm definitely never gonna submit anything here ever again. You are a fool for not worshipping my godlike video.

Yea, I've definitely not paid enough attention to beta testing, I gave a few friends of mine an unlisted preview of it and got some feedback but that was about it since I didn't really have anyone else to turn to.
But yea, I've actually asked one of those friends who hadn't watched the anime (not many hadn't) and he got the concept so I thought: yay, don't need to worry about that anymore then.
Foolish of me to let myself off the hook so easily, I suppose?! ;P

Regarding the "taking yourself out of the editing mindset and looking at it as someone who has never seen the video before", this was SOOOO hard for me and I realized it, especially how I got more *used* to the edits the more I kept watching them over and over. (Which is obvious right? But actually experiencing something first hand is always different, more intense)
It was never meant to be a dual character profile, it was always about BlueHairMcAngry losing passion due to no challenge and then being "cured" by the ex-friend BlueHairMcMaincharacter and his team mate RedhairMcAngry.

Effects don't fit for the most part - I'd need examples to fully understand and internalize this! ;c

"you have to turn that off by disabling the resample on each clip" - I KNEW I FORGOT SOMETHING. Because I've seen this somewhere but then never found it again so I just stopped searching. Please do send some additional information about this since I don't even know what it exactly means. Framemerging sounds horrible!

Thanks for taking the time to reply! ^o^

PS: Did you read the short section in the announcement thread? ;3

EDIT1: OMG, I just checked out a video on Youtube regarding resampling and realized how fucking stupid I was. I actually thought those frames were meant to be like that in the anime, which made it hard to mask at some points. GOOD JOB ME.
Big thanks for pointing that one out! Are you refering to a script when mentioning an easy way to do it? Because this guy is advertising one that does the trick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ObZ3uD-eP8

Jebus Christ, you're ready for a full beta test/review. I'll shoot you a message about it all later today.

I'll throw in on this as well. I can see the potential, but you gotta not do the "everything and the kitchen sync" approach, 'cause that's what it felt like -- you used all sorts of completely useless effects that didn't add anything to the video, and that lip sync...completely out of place and awkward. It definitely felt like a "first video", if that makes sense...when I started using Vegas, I did the exact same thing, and made a horrible, bad-effects-ridden crapfest of a video.

I want to stress though, that you're in a much better position than I was way back when, and this video is significantly better than my POS (or my first several, for that matter). For starters, take out all the effects (and I mean all of them) and I think this video would be perfectly fine. The editing is really solid, for the most part, and you can tell a clear story -- contrary to Yue I thought the concept was executed well. I've never seen these two anime so I'm coming in with a blank slate, and I didn't have any problems getting the gist of the story you were trying to tell. I also didn't feel like it needed to be altered to accommodate some "dual character profile" like Yue seems to think. Don't listen to her. She's crazy.

So, good first step...in the future, I'd try making an effects-less or almost effects-less video, and see what happens. As long as you can tell a clear story and edit well (both of which you seem to have a good grasp of), effects are often not needed. But that's just me, and I'll admit I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to my preference for simpler videos.

And yeah. Dat frame resampling -_-

Truth be told, I just don't like the dull, non-vibrant look of raw anime footage in AMVs at all. (Unless, obviously, the theme of the AMV calls for it, but even then there's color correction to be done)
But I guess I overdid it a bit on the contrast especially?

Thanks for getting the storyline though! ;3

I don't quite understand the following expression: "everything and the kitchen sync" approach" - no idea what you mean.
Concerning the lip sync - it's not super awesome, but it's not like it doesn't make sense, storywise, right? But yea it was pretty much like: I have this scene and the song has lyrics I can actually lipsync to, so let's try using it! More of a coincidence than intentionally build in.

Thanks for taking the time to respond! ^ - ^

PS: Could you give me timestamps on where the frame resampling appears heavily? Because I honestly didn't really see a difference when watching the new version without it.

one thing that I feel that this video needed was a stronger connection to the song. I feel that the pairing can work well, but it doesn't fit naturally. And so you have to put in extra effort to show how the rivalry in the anime matches the lyrics and emotion in the song. And so my tip to you is to try focusing on syncing to the lyrics more and using scenes that reflect their meaning.
