Re: Why are you in such a good mood?

Post by Pwolf » Thu May 31, 2012 11:19 pm

Was talking to my boss briefly about the budget situation and wither or not I should start looking harder at finding another job. He said I shouldn't worry too much. Unless they go with the "worst case" scenario budget proposal, I should be fine. He also said, as far as budget cuts, he'd rather cut other services than get rid of me. I'm pretty confident in my abilities and my work but it's always nice to hear it from other people I work with, more so from my boss.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer here, but when my mother was working for a heating company years ago, her boss told her that no matter what, her job was secure.

But that's exactly what he meant - her job. She was fired and an accountant was hired in her place, because he thought that his failing business was just being calculated wrong. Turns out he went under not even a year later. Part of me feels triumphant, somehow.

Anyway, I'm not saying that there's some conspiracy of which you have to be wary, just that it sounded familiar to me from the past, and the story I knew had a crappy ending.

Oh, and my happy thing is that my brother bought me a PS3 for my birthday. :awesome: Yes, it has taken me this long to get a "next-gen" console. Now I just need a decent television to play it on, right? Also, this means that the $50 in GameStop gift cards that I was saving up can be applied to some game I want instead of the system on which to play it. So that's pretty fuckin' sweet.

I know I'm not 100% safe, there's still the possibility that I'll be cut. I have a pretty good relationship with my boss though so have no reason not to trust him and I know I'll be the first person to know if anything changes.

That said, there's a lot that's out of his control. Part of the discussion we had was about the possibility of a full time position being opened up by the end of the year. He had a meeting with the new City Manager and it was positive but both of us recognize that the new CM might have just been telling him what he wanted to hear and that I shouldn't just stop looking for a new job based on that.

Started my new walk to work today. :3

It's just a hair under 2 miles and I'm loving it. The majority is uphill so it takes me a little under an hour due to an old injury that starts to act up. If I stand for more than 20 minutes or so my ankle starts to act up really badly. I was the smartest kid in the world when I was younger and 2 days after breaking bones in my foot and destroying my ankle, I thought it was a good idea to start walking on it. >_>;;

But beyond the pain, I'm super happy. I really, really missed my walks. I finally have my "me" time again to blast my ipod and just kind of be alone in my thoughts.

It feels good.

No diet, just eating well and doing light exercise. I'm very anti-diets because they almost never work, both because the diets themselves are usually denying your body things it actually needs, and because they're usually so ridiculous that nobody manages more than a couple of weeks on them. Just plain old eating well, and making sure you are getting all the things you need like good fats, can go a long way if you stick with it and don't slip up. For 3 months I subsisted on healthy cuts of meat from my local butcher, salads and vegies, and water - I cut out soft drinks and alcohol completely for the 3 months to let my system detox. Now I eat more regularly, allowing myself the occasional soft drink / beer or greasy burger, but just make sure I have time to cook dinner for myself most nights, lunch every weekend, and grab a healthier choice near work for lunch.

My main suggestion to anyone would be: avoid anything that says "low fat". Low fat usually means it's something that you actually want to get some fat out of (like yoghurt) as it can do your system good in small doses. By cutting out the fat it's depriving your body, and all you're getting instead is a boatload of sugar that they put in to offset the lack of flavour.

Now that I'm down to a more acceptable weight range, my next goal is to start doing intensive work-outs D:
