Hey Org, do you do anything musical?

Post by dreamawake » Thu Nov 17, 2011 11:54 pm

I'd put this in the music thread but i'd like to get some responses as I'm thinking about doing something, feel free to move this thread after it's gotten some attention if you wish, mods.

I sing, I rap, I play guitar.

Do any of you play instruments or sing? I've been thinking I'd like to do some collaboration covers with org people who can record their respective instruments in quality at least up to par with mine. (Which is doable since im using a rockband mic...). I think it could be a kind of cool and fun little bonding experience for us and a chance to maybe create something cool (Think those youtube compilation video covers people do where they recreate songs with a bunch of different people from the community).

ah, I used to play a few different instruments...but I haven't played since high school, don't have access to any of the ones I've played, and I don't really have a mic, so I'm afraid I won't be of much help.

Though I'm not really good... my instruments are voice and an acoustic guitar... I'm not too sure about my mic though :uhoh:

I've actually been playing on and off for most of my life, but over the last 2 or 3 months, I've been making an effort to practice more seriously and regularly. Been good stuff! I have relatively little interest (if still a healthy respect) for doing standard sorts of stuff though - my hope, eventually, is to work my way through from rhythm guitar to blues and jazz to my actual goal of freeform improv and ambient guitar. I love unusual guitarists like Robert Fripp and David Torn, for example, and would like to do something as off-the-wall as they do. I'm not terribly ambitious though - it's something that just makes me feel good :)

And I'm still terrible at it btw :P

I play ukulele, bass guitar, flute and saxophone (from my band days), and piano. Don't record at all, but I'd really be interested in seeing two people on the org collaborate on something in the future.

My main instruments are Clarinet (though I prefer Bass) General Percussion, Piano, and Voice.

Haven't really been able to practice my Clarinet since I haven't played much after High School and I used a school Bass Clarinet. I can't play trapset to save my life, something about hitting the bass drum with my feet I just can't do, but any other drum, percussion, or keyboard instrument I can still play. Grant it, I don't have a keyboard (been wanting to get a midi keyboard for a while now but don't have any room for it) or any instruments so I doubt I could be of much help beyond lending my voice.

I love the idea though and if I had the means I'd totally help out. While I can't play or record a trapset, I love using everyday items as percussion instruments so I suppose that's somewhere else I could help with provided ya' don't mind non-traditional sounds.

I've played bass for... eight years now? I've never really thought of recording, I have no way to do it cleanly.

Play the drums. And while being in too poor health to play the drums, I am learning to play bass - fun times.
Also used to play the piano, but I stopped after damaging my fingers a few years ago.

Tried to learn guitar various times, but my fingers are still too damaged to do so...

But yeah, mainly I'm a drummer in a Alt-Metalcore band (which is sort of on-hold due to my current condition).

I play alto saxophone well enough (and technically recorder, I guess, since it's the same fingerings).

Don't know about recording it, though. My microphones probably all suck.
