My dog Princess was put to sleep on Friday. On one hand, I'm sad, but on the other, she beat out bad circumstances wonderfully. We bought her from a rescue shelter when she was two years old and immediately discovered that she had epilepsy, which would shorten her lifespan on its own, but the harsh medication that she needed to control it was also tough on her system. The vets said she would probably live ten years. She made it to fifteen, and was in stunningly good health up until the last year.

Princess was the gentlest, sweetest animal on the planet, utterly incapable of hurting anyone and as affectionate as you can imagine. She lived happily with a doting family who loved her dearly, from her skinny minnie supermodel legs to the curly tufts on her big, floppy ears. To the best dog ever: my pretty girl Princess.
