Dealing with AMV Fame

On the real tho when I first met Fall_Child, ZephyrStar and Otohiko all I wanted to do was chill with these guys and have a drink somewhere. Which we did and it was some good times, last thing on our minds was how famous the other person was. Now these days all I wanna do is meet other editors get drunk and talk about stupid shit.

I don't recall being famous enough to have people come up to me...I usually did the seeking out to say hi to everyone.

I've had it happen a few times after winning at serveral conventions AMV-contests (the swedish amv-community is not very big) and people started to recognize me from my video presentation and appearance on the prize ceremony. I've never had so much faning, more like congratulations or compliments and at times some vague questions like what program I use and such.

But I get recognized by the amv makers that do enter the cons along with me - but they usually keep their distance it appears.

(All above has mostly been between 2007-2010 though, since I rarely go to conventions nowadays.)

I tend to be on the down low, maybe it's because I am really shy when it comes to meeting other amv editors (the ones I don't already talk to online that is)

I've never been to a meet and greet, but I sometimes meet up with some editors who go to AX.

I once had a guy over hear me and my friend whispering about my amv during the contest showing, and after he started talking to me telling me how much he loved my video. During the voting time he screamed "VOTE FOR AMOR FATALI" which put me in a super awkward stance. xDD

I should suddenly put out a video and see how many people still remember me ;p

I've gotten some attention from younger people especially in the past. I remember I met Rina that way. A few of them were surprised I was a guy.... I guess because of the type of angsty drama videos I made back then ;p

The amount of times I was confronted by random people I didn't know who were fans of my work can be counted on 1 hand though, through my 5 or 6 years of editing, it didn't happen all that often, and most of them were also either already editors, or aspiring editors.

How to handle it? Thank them, Have some humility, and talk to them like an equal. Don't let it get to our head. Its thanks to the fans that we are recognized in any way. Know that there is always someone out there that is better than us ;p

I have certificates and the like on/over my desk at work, and we do have tours from local schools, colleges and I keep hoping someone would say something like "Hey - I like AMVs too!" and then maybe have seen one of mine, liked it. That would be cool.

Never happened yet.

Hey Bakadeshi, nice to see you again. It's been a while since I last watched something from you.

Returning back to topic:

While it's true that the best thing for an editor is to enjoy at least for a while something you've been making for a lots of months ago, released it and then realize people is enjoying the proyect, it may be also a problem when you can't just give up the idea of how awesome the video is. That's why I like to go, party and then forget about it, and return back to new proyects

At Anime LA, I once had two fangirls bow down to me and worship the very ground I walked upon...and then wanted me to take a picture with them.... O_o Needless to say, I was very surprised.

Nobody knows who I am right off, but sometimes it will come up in conversation at a con that "You made This Is Halloween?!" And I'll get some 'omigosh'es and 'I loved that video'. Doesn't happen often though.

One person told me after watching Anime Conji that she really liked my Ringleader video and that Soul looked so sexy when he smiled. That was...definitely something!

I think it also has to do with Bakadeshi productions which vids are edited by a women.
