I figured people would be able to make the connection. If you watch that dance scene from Perfect Blue, there's alot of talk among the audience about the singer's careers, their latest album, etc etc, the kind of conversations that're brought up in Beck alot.
And I agree, LOLRANDOM-type humor only goes so far on it's own. Putting a funny song or quote to an anime is great for only the first few times, although I'll always have a place in my heart
for some exceptions
