Custom Org Profiles?

actually, tbh, I'd trade the customization on YT for a profile pic ANYDAY, but maybe that's cause I like to draw and stuff...

i think we would do well to separate ourselves from yt...not because "yt sucks...BOO!! BOOSHACK IS STOOPID!" but because we aren't youtube, and if we could find more creative ways to be a-m-v.org than we'd be a lot more attractive than youtube to more types of editors (they can keep their DragonBleach fgts tho)

Again, don't get me wrong, Youtube was my first love, but the Org is my mistress and if we're just gonna be another YT wannabe then i see no reason to cheat on YT with us...them...it?

Basically I do not really like the idea... I like this site as it is... a change would be unnecessary.

Well i was kind of using youtube as an overall example. I dont want org to be youtube. Not because we have to be better or because youtube is "GAY PFFFTTT "

However i do think that adding user-generated content might spice the site up. Again, im only throwing ideas around.

If someone wants to chip in a better idea im all for it.

Personally I don't think the Org needs anything like this. I like the Org's simplistic layout and I think making things too customizable can really affect the convenient and straight forward interface of our profiles. If you want to show your skills in still image editing, I think you should stick to Youtube or linking to Deviantart or whichever other site you use to upload artworks.

hmm...if only there were some media we could upload here that is fully customizable and editable and potentially unique...

i actually can't really think of any ideas...I don't wanna say that the Org is perfect, but i think it's good as is.

We need to learn from google/youtube's constant mistakes and just LEAVE SHIT ALONE!

I can't remember the last time I looked at a profile page, cept a pic swap.

I doubt profile pages get viewed often enough for it to matter. Most people just catch amv's by announcements and rarely even check the person's profile. We don't watch vids from profiles either so that kinda makes it even more pointless.

Our coders aren't being paid so why should they take on a heavy job like this? The fact that preview was given to us alone is amazing.

IMHO profiles are fine the way they are. If you want a fancy one bad enough link to a blog in your sig/profile/etc or build your own homepage.

I'd love to have custom profiles, but I honestly don't think it's worth it. As EvaFan said, the people behind the scenes have got enough on their hands, and frankly most people would like to see more important changes. I'm totally for the idea to a certain extent, but at the moment it's just not a priority.
And I think the whole "NO CUZ BOOCHSHACK DUZZIT" argument is pretty stupid. Sure, the way youtube handles stuff leaves a lot to be desired, but just because they do it doesn't mean we shouldn't.

what's the point of comparing this idea to youtube? it's not that youtube is the sole heir of profile customization. it has sort of accustomed throughout the internet if it hasn't been noticed.

thinking pessimistically, this could be horribly abused. but, it'd be nice if somehow there were more ways to makes one's profile individual other than the profile image, like the compatibility of a flash music player, or something...

Agreed. Its true that youtube isnt the main source for profile customization. Actually...almost all websites with a "profile" offer at least the basics in customization...idk if a profile pic counts for that or not but its true.

Facebook is easy to to read (for most anyways) and yet still keeps the ability to customize.
