And I don't mind the fades, it's easier to focus on the theme when you do simple edits. And this video is really solid for sticking to it.

I noted this on your macross vid... your not falling into THAT hole are you. DUDE lay off the fades!! It can get addicting believe me.ExSphere wrote:I liked the consistancy, the pacing was right on que, and the quality was top notch.
The only thing I really didnt like was how this video was NOTHING but fades...every clip faded to another clip.
not quite how I'd describe it but...Code wrote:fadetastic

Anyway, yeah, definitely your style. Kinda iffy on the fades, they made the video a little predictable, but scene selection and emotion was all spot-on.
4/5
That exactly what it is... a generic video... i'm not trying to win awards hereVivaldi wrote:Eh, I'm not really feeling it. It's edited perfectly, but to me it just feels like a generic vid done very well, and the combo holds no significance to me.![]()

It was really nice to watch!
I'm not falling into any holes... What is wrong with editing a video how I feel it should be edited? Personally, I think the Macross video is my best video. It may not be the best editing in the eyes of some, but it accomplishes everything I wanted out of it. If I had to use fades to accomplish my goals, by hell and high water, I'm going to use fades. Same with this video. It's not a matter of, "Hey, i like fades, so i'm going to use them EVERYWHERE!", it's a matter of, "This is how I want to express my idea."Knowname wrote:I noted this on your macross vid... your not falling into THAT hole are you. Consistency has it's place, but falling into the "everything has to be the same" hole, as it looks like you have, is wrong, IMO. If every fade of mine was the exact same length, there would be no flow, it would be even more predictable and completely uninteresting. I don't just throw a fades around randomly. I listen to the music, decide where I want it to start and how long it should be. There is a method to my madness. IMO, only a newb would make every fade the same length. When you do that, you are using the fade only as a transition and not as a visual and emotional device.Knowname wrote: Truthfully it wasn't the fades that got to me, it was that I didn't feel the footage did the song justice... the song is a little faster than that, the clips are a little slow and the fades are a little lengthy. I mean... I'm no musician, but I could probably guess... your tempo was WAY off (was there a tempo? for instance certain fades were 5ms, some 10ms I like to stay consistant- with no fades intruding into 'enemy music bars', hunting through my timeline just to make sure no bad fades get through... I'm VERY particular about my fades
), but much closer in the end. I didn't mind the final scenes so much. Too many fades, less fades would have quickened your tempo as well, but I think all you'd need to do is shorten them... and maybe speed up the clips a bit according to the song's tempo.
I think i've been editing long enough to to say I know what I'm doing. This video wasn't meant to win awards or have people come knocking on my door praising me for making the best romance video ever. I made it for a purpose, for myself. The way the video was edited works for how I envisioned it. If you or anyone else cannot look past the "fades" and see what's there... so be it, i don't expect anyone to read my mind. Everything is up to interpretation. all you see are fades, someone else might see more then that.Knowname wrote: In the end this is all that matters though lol "It's how I wanted it to be edited." We all need to take our lumps, but please note all the ppl who urge you to cut back on the fades *_* trust me half of us have been there. (and NOBODY likes to listen to advice lol)
3/ 5 (based on merit) for me
