That part where you have Gwenyth Paltrows bitch up in the clouds was just really bad imo. Reminded me of something from muppet babies where your watching a cartoon and all the sudden boom random LA... Or live action cow from drawn together.. Can't tell which... Moving on. Your story was good and I think most of your sync worked, wasn't keen on the effects... EF is really a stunning anime (visually) you don't really need to add anything to it. I think during that end scene I would have like to see a softer type of overlay as opposed to the divided screen shot things.. you were doing. But most of what I like in videos boils down to the emotion and the story line, both of which I really liked here and you did a great job with. Your scene choices were right on.
Duly noted, thanks for your suggestions, there actually weren't many effects I added in...besides some saturation/brightness adjustment in a couple of scenes, and the overlays, the most I did were transitions/reversal/velocity adjustments...I suppose most of the non-crossfade transitions weren't needed, only one I actually liked (and even that may be more to my personal taste) was because the transition went in time to the flow of the words...

I really shouldnt be allowed to watch this video =p
I honestly couldnt get into for a lot of reasons...Since I recently made a video to this song and kept constantley comparing it to mine. And I really despise this source <_< Dunno I feel like people take the animation and pretend it will edit itself.

Well I don't blame you, I love how your video came out, and it did take out a bit of wind from my sails after seeing how yours had come out, considering I had started this video one day before you had put up yours....so I knew there would be comparisons done with yours. I know mine pales in terms of editing technique though...

I don't get what u mean by pretending that the animation will edit itself though :( ...

he means that you wouldn't have to do much work and it'd all just fut together perfectly without a hitch.

though he could have meaant it actually edits itself.

He means he thinks people believe that EF is so visually stunning they can slack of on editing since the source composition will carry them through.

I say ef needs a balance. Over complicating sync will look awful due to said composition, however, making sure editing is simple yet powerful enough to work to evoke an emotional response is still difficult. See Jay's Paper Image.

I've watched Paper Image A LOT of times, I think I was unconsciously trying to emulate that feel in this video, still a ways off...but I have to say that I've felt a lot more satisfaction from doing this AMV as opposed to my 2 previous ones...I'm trying to tweak this, make it a little simpler, but as you said Kionon, it's still quite a difficult task.

I won't throw in the towel just yet though...

That is probably one of the problems here. Don't try to emulate Jay. This is one of the biggest issues with AMVs today. Koop is innovative, and doesn't try to follow anyone else. And he's good at it. He's both skilled and lucky. Trying to emulate him will fail. Do your own thing, do your own experiments. With competence and luck you will suceed. I am pretty sure I know Jay well enough by now to say he would agree. In fact, he may be along shortly to do so.

As I said, it was an unconscious feeling, and I guess I should clarify, it's not so much a case of trying to emulate him directly, but it's an inspiration to see this type of video done right, and I've drawn inspiration from many great videos I have seen on here over the years, so it sets a standard for me that I know I will try to meet and exceed in due time. It doesn't mean that I am not trying to find my own niche though.

Hence why I said that for this video, I am still learning and experimenting. With any experiment, 99% of the time it ends in failure, but that 1% that goes right, is what is remembered. I know my work is far from being up there with the best, but that's not going to stop me from aiming for there.

Well I've finished a re-edit, removed all the LA parts, as well as some of the effects, and generally tried to tighten up some of the scene edits...so I'll re-upload this video later tonight.
