I Got Bored and Made This!!!

actually i find that videos that take me longer seem to be not as good as videos i can whip out in a few hours, maybe its because the ones that take me longer i got bored with and end up pushing myself to finish them while the shorter ones i was entertained while making them?

Prodigi, that doesn't count....when someone goes to your descriptions and reads (the ones at the org anyway), they know you took care in making them.

Time isn't really an issue....look at Iron Chefs.

Hmmmmm, maybe I didn't bring my point across as clear as I should have. Sorry about that.

Okay the videos I'm taking about are the:
I was bored and made this.
The Description: either nothing is written, or the description says something like mehhh. Now I don't mean the mehh the denotes "I don't care if you like this or not. I like it and that's all that matters" mehh....I mean the mehhh that means "I'm still bored and don't care about my video" mehhh.

I'm easy when it comes to watching videos. I can get a link to a DBZ LP In The End video, and I'll watch it if the editor really seemed to care about it.

So I guess it's not so much the "I'm Bored" statement, as much as the lack of care that usually follows the "I got bored and made this" staement.

Maybe it's also because you don't lose focus while making them. Making vids longer can suffer from "what did i want to do with it next" syndrome... unles you're kewp, of course :<

I should also be added to the "faster = better" group.

Stones and Lines - 17 scenes, hardly 4 hours
Tegami - 48 hours IC, editing about 10-16 hours, I'd say
Amber Busters (...) - one or two days?

I got bored and made the following in limited amounts of time and I consider them my best videos:

Ghost in the Machine - Approx. 6 hours total editing over 2 days.
Fraternal Bonds - Got bored and edited it in approx 8 hours over 2 days because Brad and Liz had gone on their honeymoon, and Ileia and Jon were at work those days, so I was on my own in the Chicago apartment.
Darkest Hour - Got bored and edited it in about 5 hours total editing over 2 days to try and get it ready for Pro at the last minute.
Crossing Paths - Got bored and edited it over a weekend off work.
Insomnia - Got bored and edited it over a weekend.
1320 - Got bored and edited it on a weekend off Uni.
All That Remains - Got bored and edited it in a day.



Why is Camaro not on that list!!!!
Promise - Got bored and edited it in a day.
Adrenaline Junkie - Got bored and edited it in one 4 hour session.
Sympathy for the Devil - Got bored and edited it over a weekend before exams.
Freefall - Got bored, had Jay send me a song, edited the video in one day.

All of these videos were edited in less than 10 hours total editing time, all of them within 2 days. All of them are videos of mine that I love, and are the videos that I get the most love for.

I have often stated when releasing videos "I got bored and edited this in a day", and that doesn't in anyway detract from how good/bad my video is. The problem isn't people getting bored and editing quickly, the problem is everyone else making the assumption that it can't be good. That's like immediately ruling any video using overused sources as being sub-par before even watching it.

My two cents. I've just personally always been irked by the concept of how long you've worked on something being directly proportional to how good it is, because I've always been an editor who has finished videos ridiculously fast by fellow editor's standards.

The "actually having skill" factor makes time less relevant. Time allows for you to do time-consuming things or to make up for a lack of talent with dedication. That's about it. It shows dedication. If the idea is simple, you don't need dedication if you happen to have talent.

Fluffy Bunnies allow for Cuddly Kittens to do fluffy bunny-consuming things or to make up for a lack of experience with dedication. That's about it. It shows dedication. If the idea is simple, Cuddly Kittens don't need dedication if Cuddly Kittens happen to have experience.

There are lots of times I get bored, and what do you know I do something that SOLVES the problem. A bored editor means either the video is absolute crap, or they've chosen the wrong hobby.

I'm bored so I start to edit to kill time. After getting into it, I'm not bored anymore!

But if I edit and then get bored, then the video I'm going for is scrapped. I need motivation and emotion throughout the creation of my videos to keep 'em going. If I get bored, it just means that the concept, anime, song, etc. don't mix well enough to keep me inspired.

But yes, I agree - the most technically proficient editors around here and therefore the most helpful treat amv-making as srs bzns, and making the "I was bored" the key marketing point is annoying.

Even if the "I was bored" is a kind of defense mechanism, I believe the srs editors would prefer that someone appeared to try their hardest.

It's like they want to drag people down to their level of boredom. :/
