Prepare yourself. You are about to embark on an epic journey into the imagination of Hayao Miyazaki and the talents of Michael Flatley. This unprecedented cross between animation and live dance will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat.

(how's that for a build up! ^_^ hehe)

THIS VIDEO IS NOT FOR THE SHORT ATTENTION SPAN VIEWER. at almost 6 minutes, this video will take you for an emotional roller coaster. it has it's soft moments, fun moments, dramatic and heart racing moments.

epic masterpiece 5/5

however I didn't enjoy the live action at all this time. I know you tried but it just didn't seem to go along/mix well with the animations IMO. I would've prefered the video without it. Apart from that this is a definite must-see for every Miyazaki fan.

I absolutely second that. Maybe you want to make a second version because this is really epic and something I want to keep: Kick all 3D-Scenes from LOTD where you can, and you could try to edit the other scenes for a more graphic look. Like making them with a filter or something.

Yet I see how well you fit them in, It's a shame to criticise such a great work!

I loved the 3D Scenes which are very flat lighted or which are like silhouettes hoewever. You just are not to show faces because this looks wrong, somehow. But, also, a great scene selection of ghibli you have there! WOW!

Seeing as it's going to be the main point of debate, I'll say I'm torn about the dance scenes. On the one hand, I completely understand why they're there, and the parallels between the anime action and the action from the Lord of the Dance definitely emphasize the drama of the piece. On the other hand... it's WEIRD seeing live action mixed in with anime. Much like it would be odd if someone mixed the Spider Man movies and Spider Man cartoon into a video. In other words, I like them, but it may be an acquired taste.
I actually got to see Lord of the Dance live, and it's freaking sweet. I have to say that this video certainly captures the mood of LotD, much more than I think it captures the moods of the animes. Miyazaki's works tend to feel more "epic" this feels more "compelling". As I've said before, I really wish Miyazaki's films more resembled your AMV interpretations of them. Your videos have that immediacy that I never quite feel in most of Miyazaki's films. (Nausicaa has it, and Mononoke to a lesser extent, but most of the others seem to trade bite for depth.)

Definitely a 5 star performance. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
I think I do have some more to say, but I'll write up a full opinion at some point soon.

I watched it a few more times. Well, I have to revise my comment from earlier. I managed to feel good with the live action scenes by thinking about this video as follows:
"This is not an AMV, this is always Lord of the Dance with Anime-Scenes over it." You have to wait for the live action scenes, sort of, then you will not be distracted by them. Thus I correct my rating to 6/5. :book: yes, it's allowed. I go for 6/5.
