"I Ain't Marryin' No Friggin' Horse!!!" (all song n dance)

I finally completed a year’s (on and off) worth of work, making a very simple song-and-dance vid that was anything BUT simple…

Image

It was all about two things... Dancing/singing, and improvising. Used very little footage but did so in new ways.

You can just enjoy the sights and sounds of anime chicks singing and dancing… or you can visually dissect with extensive use of the pause/frame advance buttons to try and see the near-invisible changes I made throughout. I stretched limited resources, I did lots of frame-by-frame editing, I layered and layered. I re-sequenced and choreographed. And it’s very easy to not notice at all.

But oh well, long as some folks just plain enjoy it as a fun little video, that’ll make me happy. ^_^

ok maybe you put much effort, but still the amv is how to put it ... boring, cause of all the repeatative scenes, I know you altered them in many ways, but still I have a dejavu :/ when I started watching it I thought to myself " will there be anything else, beside dancincg haruhi?" nad there were few lucky star dance scenes, and it was good, cause dancing haruhi throuhg whole 2 minutes is enough in my opinion.

I see the effort you put in it and only for that 3.5/5 from me.

Heh, well sowwy, it does say "all song n dance" in the title here. But maybe I didn't make it clear enough so I've added a note about it to the video description.

Thanks for the input.

Although this is the kind of editing I usually like, where the effects arn't there to stand out, they do have to have a purpose in using them, or rather I like when effects are used to change something in an anime to a different meaning for the purpose of the vid (to tell a story, to fit a theme, etc). that being said, it looks like this is what your attempting, so I shall check this out.

Just to be clear though, since I am thinking this before actually watching the video, you make it almost seem like your trying to sell the video based on how much work you put into it, but the amount of time/work put into a video alone doesn't make a video good ;p

/gets shall edit later

EDIT: Ok... That was interesting ;p I did like the idea. But I also thought you should've done more with it. The dancing alone does get old like person above me said, but I think you could've eleviated that alot by doing something different with the background. Like perhaps showing scenes of the anime to match the lyrics behind them singing/dancing or something. ofcourse that'd mean alot more masking ontop of all the lipsyncing you did... but I think it would've been worth it. Also I felt the lipsync did not feel natural most of the time. I think the position of the mouth often times didn't match the sound coming from the song. such as being open when it should be close, having an "o" shape when it shouldn't, and vice versa. I'm not all that good at lipsync myself though even when I try, so I can feel ya pain there. I know how hard it is to match those movements up accurately without looking robotic, dunno how people like AbsoluteDestiny does it so well. Otherwise, good technical effort, and I liked the idea, but this is one of those vids I couldn't help but feel it had potential to be alot more.

Well, thanks for the insight, it's all fair and balanced.

I know I coulda done more, but it woulda taken a whole nother year to finish at that rate... Besides, all I wanted to do was have singing and dancing. Adding anything else would have taken that goal away, or taken away from that goal. I guess there's just so many amv-amv's out there, that not everyone can get used to the idea of one trying to do something far more basic with the song.

I didn't wanna make all the lip-syncs phonetically perfect, cuz in anime they just don't do that most of the time. That would have looked way less natural than keeping it general. Trust me, I tried it out. Example: that awesome "Chihuahua!" vid, when the character goes "A little melody keeps spinning on my mind tonight" (or whatever he sings). The creator shaped the mouth correctly... yet it looks unnatural in terms of anime.

I had likewise tried that early in my vid, but it looked too fake. So I looked at the patterns she naturally used her mouth in within each scene, and kept the range to fit that pattern. Plus I left a few natural mouthings in there cuz they looked pretty close, or her head motions or gestures seemed to make it all look acceptable in combination.

It's not everyone's cup of tea. Sometimes doing something different is just too different, I guess.

niiiiiiiiice one ^^ 4/5 because I did not like the song that much, and you slacked a bit in the lucky star scenes. But it was really fun!

Yaaaay, at least one person liked it. It's all worth it now. ^_^

Hehe, I know, that song's not exactly on everyone's list. I'm glad you still enjoyed it in spite of that.

The thread title got my attention ^_^
*gets*

Edit:Im gonna be honest with you...

I enjoyed that a lot
Even though it was just dancing throughout,
something about it made me really enjoy watching.
Love the sync with the dancing scenes and lip-sync in it.
The song was cool too.

Downloaded the video since I saw the "used very little footage" statement.

I'm pretty much gonna echo the sentiments of what most of the other people said. I like the idea, but the execution was lacking. While I do appreciate the synching to make the dancing actually fit the music, I think you'll understand where I'm coming from when I say I felt like I just watch the same AMV twice in a row.

Cute experiment, but it would have worked out a lot better if you cut it shorter.
