Intro to AMVs

Post by PaperIsland » Tue Apr 15, 2008 8:44 pm

If you were going to show an AMV to someone who had never seen one before and who was not coming from an anime background, what would you choose?

Hopefully a thread hasn't been done like this before (or at least not recently). I couldn't find one.

I think it has, but still. I'd show a classic. Probably something using Cowboy bebop or DBZ.. you know, Anime people have at least heard of. Idk, kinda just ease 'em into it or...something.

I'd show them good videos to songs I know that they already like
or my own work

Try and pick an amv that relates to your friends taste in movies and such. If he really likes comedies pick a comedy amv, and so on.

I got several of my friends involved into anime after showing them a plethora of AMV's.

First time I tried it, I showed them several of the top 10% videos. That got them hooked.

This year, I got two-three more involved after showing them Sugardansen and Attack of the Otaku. :O

Ah, yes. That would be a good one. More specifically AMV Hell 3 i would think, though.

I also got someone into amv's with attack of the otaku, but he already liked anime already so it wasn't that hard. he he
His roomate hates me for it though, because he plays that song on repeat now.

Reflections of Style 3
'nuff said.

AND then you songs that he/she is interested in and show them that. Seeing as you said the person isn't coming from an anime background then just find an anime they might be familiar with at least.

I actually showed trythil's Spukhafte Fernwirkung to my arts administration class last week. Good thing his video description says "I encourage anyone who might be interested in redistributing, reworking, or really doing whatever to this video to do so." I had very little time to put the presentation together.

I chose it because it doesn't scream "THIS! IS! ANIME!" :P
