xstylus wrote:So much I wish I could say in defense to that, but it's not my place. I'll settle with simply agreeing that the only way to heal past history is to have smooth running conventions. No one can guarantee that AX will, but people are trying damn hard. It just hurts when people I respect such as you think so badly of AX because it means all that hard work is for shit.
Well don't at all get me wrong, I'm by no means saying a lot of hard work isn't done. In fact, I know for a fact almost every con has people busting their asses (for free!) and I appreciate that. However, regardless of how much *effort* is put into something, that doesn't always translate into it being run well and things going smoothly (if only it did).

I guess what I'm saying is, nobodies perfect and there's always room for improvement. Unfortunately, in my eyes, AX has a lot to improve upon.
xstylus wrote:I hear conflicting things about Otakon. From AMV people I hear it's everything AX wishes it could be, and from others I hear it's got the same problems as AX. I'll go there one of these days and see for myself.
Well of course my opinion is just one, but every Otakon I've attended (4 or 5), the events (beyond AMVs) have been on time and very well managed (to me, the con goer...perhaps a shit ton of stuff did go wrong, but I didn't see). Also as Vlad stated, the con itself just has a more fan friendly atmosphere. I rarely go to actual anime-related events anymore, but the few that I do go to are almost always at Otakon and I enjoy them. Also it's not as overcrowded or well...I dunno...the vibe I get there isn't as unfriendly. *shrug*

I'll be honest again in that I still *hope* for AX to attain such a level of enjoyability and that one day I can return and have a good time. It's not like I enjoy having a bad time :P.

I will however say that your cosplayers are hands down the best :P.

I can also say that if you get Maaya Sakamoto again and leave her in a room with me (alone ), I will publicly say that AX is the best con EVER.

I kid...or am I? Only KING PWOLF knows.
xstylus wrote:On a bit of a side tangent, I was at Katsucon as a staffer and saw their AMV competition. Theirs was cake because all they do is load a DVD with all the videos on it and hit play. No MC, no "ceremony", just a mere viewing. Kinda hard to screw that up. Kinda bland though.
Yeah but they probably do that because it's hard to screw up and they'd rather it be bland and working then fancy. It's a worthwhile tradeoff that I can understand. AX tries some good things, but it also makes it more risky.

Anyway frankly, it's nice enough just seeing you posting and reading my criticisms to be honest.

The forums here don't really interest me much, so I kinda tend to lurk unless it pertains to AX or what few AMVs I made. There's other staffers around here reading too though. I'm just one of the more vocal ones. Eyebrows raise when I don't have something to say. :P

Too bad he's gone, he really puy a lot into it...

I remember seeing you, Ermac, and Eric Kobet going up on stage and that's when I said...

Vlad + Eric + Ermac all in one person?

Dear God we'd have some sort of AMV frankenstein's monster on our hands making whacked out techno drama videos.

Castor Troy's latest AMV Release: Soul of a Transcending Donut.

Yes, but what category would it fit in?

/me waits patiently to see if anyone gets the reference. :P

My "I wanna be like him when I grow up!" moment was when I was at AX98 and saw Kevin Caldwell sweep the entire competition, and again at AX99.

Fast forward to today, and I'm now sitting at an indie film studio doing bitch work as an intern in the hopes of getting a chance to play with the big boys. :)

When I get the chance I'll show some of the fellas around here Koop's "Euphoria" and say "Let's see you guys do that."

Actually, not transcending (wrong year) but more like "Soul of a Memories Donut"!

Doesn't have quite the right ring to it. I prefer "Memories of a Donut Soul."
