Well don't at all get me wrong, I'm by no means saying a lot of hard work isn't done. In fact, I know for a fact almost every con has people busting their asses (for free!) and I appreciate that. However, regardless of how much *effort* is put into something, that doesn't always translate into it being run well and things going smoothly (if only it did).xstylus wrote:So much I wish I could say in defense to that, but it's not my place. I'll settle with simply agreeing that the only way to heal past history is to have smooth running conventions. No one can guarantee that AX will, but people are trying damn hard. It just hurts when people I respect such as you think so badly of AX because it means all that hard work is for shit.
I guess what I'm saying is, nobodies perfect and there's always room for improvement. Unfortunately, in my eyes, AX has a lot to improve upon.
Well of course my opinion is just one, but every Otakon I've attended (4 or 5), the events (beyond AMVs) have been on time and very well managed (to me, the con goer...perhaps a shit ton of stuff did go wrong, but I didn't see). Also as Vlad stated, the con itself just has a more fan friendly atmosphere. I rarely go to actual anime-related events anymore, but the few that I do go to are almost always at Otakon and I enjoy them. Also it's not as overcrowded or well...I dunno...the vibe I get there isn't as unfriendly. *shrug*xstylus wrote:I hear conflicting things about Otakon. From AMV people I hear it's everything AX wishes it could be, and from others I hear it's got the same problems as AX. I'll go there one of these days and see for myself.
I'll be honest again in that I still *hope* for AX to attain such a level of enjoyability and that one day I can return and have a good time. It's not like I enjoy having a bad time

I will however say that your cosplayers are hands down the best

I can also say that if you get Maaya Sakamoto again and leave her in a room with me (alone

I kid...or am I?

Yeah but they probably do that because it's hard to screw up and they'd rather it be bland and working then fancy. It's a worthwhile tradeoff that I can understand. AX tries some good things, but it also makes it more risky.xstylus wrote:On a bit of a side tangent, I was at Katsucon as a staffer and saw their AMV competition. Theirs was cake because all they do is load a DVD with all the videos on it and hit play. No MC, no "ceremony", just a mere viewing. Kinda hard to screw that up. Kinda bland though.
Anyway frankly, it's nice enough just seeing you posting and reading my criticisms to be honest.
