The problem of the JCA is that too few people got involved into it.
112 - total number of votes were made
Ridiculous. Does this represent anything? (I also wonder about the VCA numbers)
4 - amount of different countries that the elected judges come from
4 countries? And how many communities?

Next time the organizers should put more effort in making JCA a contest in which the whole amv-world takes part, not only some part of those who hang out on the org's forum."Private message me if you want to vote"? Even technically it does not look like a reputable contest claiming to be the same level as VCA. Please, make it work just like VCA next time, approved by the org and through the site.
having judges from different countries doesn't mean it's going to be better or more fair
The results would be easier to accept.

Here are my suggestions, but feel free to take them with a grain of sand.

^_^

1. More Judges

- I think this has been explained, so I won't go into great detail. I just think that it would be more effective to have more say in the final sayings.

2. Non-Uniform Judging System

- I think judges should base all of their judging systems based on their own rubrics. This way, judges will judge differently and will have more of a unique sense towards videos. Forcing judges to conform to a uniform judging rubric would probably turn him/her off. Judging should *for lack of a better term* come from the heart. :O

3. Non-Bias Judge Selection System

- While others might not see it, I think that it would be fair not to discourage a judge based on his/her place of residence (country) or their activeness/notoriety on the org website or out of the org website. Judges are expected to maintain a professional atmosphere, and I truely think that they will. People aren't as petty as we think they are.

Oh, and I truely think things went well Koop. I didn't agree with a few of the choices, but then again, that's my personal bais and shouldn't effect you at all.

By the way, I would love to see the judging sheets/word documents if there were any. I would love to see how these judges judged, and how the finalists were ultimately chosen.

*hugs*

This was a first year contest, run only by me - it was a trial run. How much participation did you really think a person like me could actually garner? I didn't have any kind of budget to promote this, just anybody I knew (and lots of people I didn't know) that I just messaged and tried to spread by word of mouth as fast as possible. Granted, I only had less than a couple weeks to get it going - but it was a a start. This idea was all concieved and promoted within a month or two from when it actually started. I was actually expecting less than half the participation that I did, so I'm happy with what I got. So, now that I have a whole year till the next one, I have more time to branch out into 'other' communities - though I do not believe that starting in the 'largest' of the communities was a bad place to be.

Like I said, I was the only one organizing this whole thing, and in a relatively short amount of time. As for it wanting to be seen as an 'official' counter part to the VCA's - I definitely made that proposition (http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=85246) - and this was the result - a trial run to gain even more interest for upcoming years. So, this is the first of its kind - I couldn't really expect the org to take on this as an official contest without first testing the waters. I was monumentally happy just to get them to post the contest on the front page to help with the participation. But definitely, for upcoming years - I (hopefully others will help) will try to get a larger amount of participation and iron out the kinks in the contest.

Points noted.

As for the spreadsheets that were used - I do have them and so do the judges. I'm on the fence about letting people see them though.

don't, its material for flamewars =| well publicly at least, maybe give the finalists an option to view it themselves if they want to and send in private?

I don't think we need to see the score sheets, to be honest. All it will really satisfy is people's curiosities, and perhaps to stroke egos for the winning videos (or to use as ammunition for those that didn't win). For the most part, I'm seeing that most people are satisfied with the results, so what's the point of dissecting them any further, other than perhaps for more vindictive reasons?

Not for the point of stirring up controversy, just wanted to make the contest transparent to show that not everything was as clearcut as people might think it was. I am more than likely not going to show them though.
