I thought that was awesome. There was a kind of involvement that I've not felt in any other AMVs I've seen. I think it had a lot to do with the pacing of certain recurring elements (I know what I mean, even if you don't. You know how you would alternate between slow moving scenes with lots of 'implied' energy - shakes, hair moving, etc - and completely static scenes, or when you tilt the view ever so slightly).
Granted, I'm a noob who's only seen a small number of these vids, that was a lot easier to follow than a lot of what I've seen, yet it still had tons of graaaah (techical term).
Anyway, I'm keeping this one.
Cheers,

I haven't read through everyone's comments, but by your reply I think I'm probably going to end up parroting a lot of what's already been said.
First, I don't think the song fit the video. That's not to say it never could have, because there were parts of the video where you did a good job at matching things up, but I really just don't think you paced the video correctly the majority of the time; the song was much faster than the actual video.
Which leads me to my second point, which is the beat sync. Now, I'm going to say right now that I don't necessarily think there should have been more (but, come on, there were parts of the video that were just SCREAMING for more beat sync, despite what your approach to the video was), but when you did beat sync, it wasn't always consistent or well-executed, like at 2:21 - you missed the last beat. Maybe you did it on purpose, but in my opinion if you're going to sync to a string of beats like that, you should hit them all.
Third, I didn't get the concept. I've watched it three times now, and I'm just as clueless as I was the first time. The mood skips around too much, and I honestly just have no idea what's going on. As a side note, I have no idea why you listed this as horror - I don't see where you get that label at all.
Finally, the visual quality is...not so great. A 6/10 from me in an op would probably be about right - it's frigging BLURRY man. Seriously, if you want me to help with encoding and filtering, I will, because you can't just leave a source like this (I assume your source was RAWs) unfiltered.
As for what I did like...well, honestly, not a whole lot. I liked that you decided to keep the effects to a minimum, because this anime's art style really does speak for itself and doesn't need any external help when it comes to being pretty. The few things you did use were cool, I approve especially of 1:47-1:51, I really liked what you did there.
I think, ironically, that this video's best parts are (usually) the ones where you actually DO beat sync. The rest of the video just REALLY lacks flow. You didn't even have to do more beat sync, you just had to have more going on on the screen, there were too many clips where there was way too little movement, and, like it or not, this causes a disconnect between the video and music. Even if you don't want to beat sync, that doesn't mean you can't pay attention to the flow of the song period.
Overall, not your best effort by a long shot. I can only give this a 2/5, I just wasn't digging this at all. It had potential, but the final product is just lacking in almost every category for me.

MEH!
This is thrown away potential. I don´t want that you have to sync every little piece of crap in a song, but hell... There are some parts that just have to be timed right like 00:25. You took some of my advices (I think so, but you ignored simpel stuff). Like...
02:22 Where is the expolosion or the "WOW" effect? Just his dumb, dark face again.
Or or... 02:21 Do you remeber what I told you about the pause of the song you could place in there? That would please BOTH sides (you and those who want the beats synced). Ok you lost interessted in the project... so whatever.
I like it at some parts, but this could have been done way better. *sigh* Just do what you want and keep haveing fun with it, ok? =D
3.25/5

You know I can't resist responding to you, Ben <:l
On most of your points, it's all personal opinion, and I can't really disagree with you.
Two things I'll clarify:
-I put in Horror because of the tension I was trying to create throughout the video. It's meant to disturb, and I felt that was the most fitting category for those characteristics.
-The source was DVDs, and the footage was pretty much cleaned to perfection. The blurriness in some parts was just due to the motion and camera placement I was using. Still, I think you're being a tad difficult here.
You'll like my next video better, I think

Okay, I don't get it.
Why does everybody say there's a lack of flow or pacing here? It wasn't perfect, but I thought it was quite fitting with the song. I think you're doing a good job here: you're starting to get what REAL pacing is about, something you don't see on the .org a lot. You start to know where and when to cut and when to cut and most importantly how to cut. (and yes, I'm talking about the fades and the "hard cuts"). You also now what to cut in terms of flow, meaning that the combination of of where to cut and the dynamicallity (if that's even a word) together created the motion and the pace needed. It's not 100% perfect, but it's certainly going to the right direction!
Especially the last part, which nobody liked, I found to be really good. This is the type of editing you mostly see in those opening songs of 80s shows, but it works really well here, especially because you don't really expect it.
Now for the not so good stuff.
I like the black parts, how they take your focus to the words being said. Unfortunately, (but I'm not good with English songs, so I need to check out first what it means) I don't know what the AMV is about (from seeing it along). I mean, I can understand somewhat what the song is about and how there's this portrayal of two different characters in your AMV, but the explosions (even though done nicely) and the characters are somewhat vague to me. And now going back to the black parts: what would really be good in those black parts is when a viewer can imagine for themselves what's going to be in there, see what's there without ot being explicity portrayed. And that's something I missed, because of the not-so-understanding-of-the-story-aspect.
Also, there were some parts that didn't flow really well, around 1:05, the back-and-forth-scenes look good, but in the last part, with the guy running towards the scene, the build-up was dissapointing. There's this build-up to something more, both in motion and scene-portrayal wise, but then gets cut off at the 3rd part. Too bad.
There were two other things which I though really sucked: One, the end credits (the font seemed unsuiting I think, but also, even though it has anti-aliasing, for some reason it looks like it doesn't) and your announcement poster. I assume Niwa-kun didn't make this one?
But all in all, I like it, but could've been stronger story-wise. It's really refreshing seeing this kind of AMVs, where the video doesn't look like it wants to be a Winamp-visualization. Keep up the good job!

Thanks for the comments, everybody. I'm getting a lot out of it, and I kinda feel like responding to everyone individually now, but that would be unfair to the people I didn't do that for, so I won't :3
And Douggie, your opinion of the video is pretty much exactly mine. I was talking with Adam (Copycat) the other day, and I got this ridiculous idea for what I could have done with the black parts. Oh well, just gotta sit on it longer next time
Oh, and,

Douggie took the words right out of my mouth lol. I'm telling you, your filler HAS to have some relevance... but maybe since I'd been editing for... well since YOU were a preteen
and making my own little storys before than... maybe Douggie explained it better. It's an experience thing XD -call me when your older, kid-

I found all the different pacing/atmosphere things you had going on to be the main reasons I liked this video. Kind of torn feelings concerning those black parts though, I mean I liked the kind of feeling they gave off, but I'm sure you could have come up with something more effective. :p Seems different from your other vids, which makes me look forward to even more with what you'll be coming up with next.
And is that some 30 Seconds to Mars I hear in your credits?
