~Short Memories~ [Finally! My 1st AMV is Done!]

Post by XiaoMovieMaker » Sun Sep 16, 2007 12:15 pm

At long last, I finally finished reading up on that BETA guide that teaches almost everything O_O

With school work and other stuff to do, I didn't get much time to make an AMV, but since I had a few days off from school, I decided to get to work.

Video: Short Memories
Anime: 5 Centimeters Per Second
Song: Ecstasy
Artist: ATB
Creator: XiaoMovieMaker [ME! XD]

Unfortunately, the song I got seemed to be edited prior to me downloading it, so it's a short AMV, about 2:30...

Tell me what you think!

Hmm. Didn't like this. For one, the beginning was in sore need of more beat sync, and I really didn't like that box effect you had going throughout the first portion of the video. It just looked kinda cheesy. Actually, pretty much every effect you used in this video just felt really out of place. I would say you should have kept things simple, but honestly I think maybe you didn't choose the best song, either...frankly the song feels like something that's begging for lots of effects.

The scene selection was good, at least in the sense that your video told a nice story, but again I don't really know that the feeling was right for the song.

Oh, and your video is in the wrong aspect ratio - 5 Cm. Per Second is in 16:9, and your video should be too.

So anyway...nice attempt, but most of this video just felt really "off" to me. The thing I'd tell you to worry most about is finding a nice symbiosis between your song and anime choice, without that the video is not going to do very well no matter how well you do everything else.

2/5

Have to agree with Sky on just about all of the points made and for your first AMV, I think you definitely show some promise.

I think with better beat syncing and a fixed AR this video would've been way better. :)

2.5/5 Decent attempt on your first AMV.

As other's have mentioned, the AR definitely needs fixing.

But overall, there was actually quite a bit to like in this video, especially for a first real attempt. I actually didn't mind some of the "box" effects you did, but I think it could've done without a lot of them. But yeah, I think you show a lot of promise and you have the right attitude :) Good work.
