I've come back and forth to this site for AMVs for quite some time now, and once I finally got around to actually making one, I had to put it on here.
I chose 100 Years by Five for Fighting because I felt people that have seen Voices of a Distant Star would feel it is an almost perfect pick for the show... at the very least I did.
I haven't had much experience making AMVs at all, but I love the way this AMV turned out. The video is nothing special when it comes to special effects... fade in... fade out... But I tried to pick and time the best clips to the feel of the song, and I think I did a decent enough job. At the end of the day though, I just hope people enjoy it.
Here is the link.

That didn't really hit me, but I sort of could see and feel the connection you had there between the video and the song. You certainly did some thinking and tried to select the clips so they'd go with the song and capture the mood of it. And that was OK, I think. The concept was there along with the certain flow. I can't bring myself to like this AMV though, because the execution of the concept you had was too weak..
I didn't notice much sync, which was bad, because for me it is the link between the song and the video. Whether it's beat, lyrical or some abstract sync doesn't matter. But without any sync I just can't connect the clips' content with the song, even if they'd go well in theory or otherwise.. It's not about the lack of effects but just the lack of sync in general. Anyway, the lack of sync is what prevented me from liking your video.
Not only that, but your clip selection as a whole didn't make much sense. I didn't see what you were trying to do with this video. Was this a story of two people.. Was this a character profile.. Was this an exploration of a concept.. I'm afraid this was mood sync alone, or at least it looked like it. Random, random stuff. The mood sync could have balanced out the other flaws you had with the story-telling, but because it wasn't connected, it didn't work.
Also, the quality was really bad :/ This video can be rendered and compressed properly in good video and audio quality, but you didn't do that. At least it didn't have subtitles.... sort of....
2/5 for the thoughtfulness and the concept, even though the actual execution wasn't good.

Sorry, didn't like this one bit. I really don't think this song goes with the anime at all...I mean, I suppose it *could*, conceivably, but your execution did not fit the song really at all. There was no real story in here, which is a shame because the song is a narrative.
The scene selection was all over the place, and having seen the anime this really hurt the video. I love it when videos don't conform themselves to the anime's storyline or chronology, but in this case I couldn't follow whatever it was you were trying to say. You go from when they're just kids to Mikako being out in space, and then back to them with each other on Earth with no explanation. This kind of thing happens a lot throughout the video...the story jumps all over the place and there's no coherency.
Also, the lack of beat sync really hurt the video. You could have made the video at least a little more watchable had you actually attempted to follow the rhythm of the song, but all this video was was fade-in/fade-out with no respect to the song's intensity or beat. The video had no flow.
Also, the quality was pretty bad, and that credit text at the beginning and end is a big no-no. Almost as bad as subtitles.
So, I'm sorry, but from every aspect this video just did not resonate with me at all. I have to give this a 1/5, but I'm pretty sure you can do better and if you take some of our suggestions, you should do much better next time. Focus primarily on scene selection and actually making your concept clear for your next video, because I think that was probably this video's biggest downfall.
