AMVs - Story Twists
<-- I think I screwed that title up a bit.
I'm interested in looking for AMVs that have an anime and song used, but instead of being a character profile, plot summary, or examination, it kinda makes a whole new concept or story. I also want to know people's thoughts on that stuff, if possible. Like - Does it matter on the choice of anime or song, or ..?

I'm sorry. In my Beo-inspired egotistical self-promotional insanity, I forgot to answer the second part of your topic. I think the song and anime doesn't really matter 9(Though obviously, the two have to fit, or you have to make them fit). There are obviously some animes that are easier to get alternate storylines out of, but in the end, it all depends on your own creativity. It's just about making that decision that at no time will you be bound by the storyline of the source in any shape or form. If you do this, you'll be surprised how much you instictively go back to the anime storyline anyway.
Also, if you want to guarantee a completely original concept, plan your entire story in advance, or even better, storyboard.

It's deffinitely refreshing to see something that differs from simple re-telling of the story. But I think it requires much skill to actually make a GOOD video with an original story-line.. I dunno. I haven't seen so many, and only made one or two live-action vids myself.. My favourite has to be one of those CrackTheSky vids above. Lain's Lullaby or Wings to Heaven. They have both very - this is gonna sound so mighty - psychological story-lines that I liked.. Even though I thought Wings to Heaven was just pure re-telling for quite a while

This might be a good example.
Though I wouldn't know about anime and song choice since I never tried making such an amv, but it seems like people usually make that kind of video with some popular anime, probably because that way it's easier for viewers to see all the deviations from the original plot.

Re: AMVs - Story Twists
If by that you mean making a whole new story non-related to the anime(s) used then yes I love such vids.
Vlad G Pohnert's "Transcending Love" is a great example of this .
