Advice to new AMV makers

Develope your own editing style, don't watch amv's and mimic their FX.

Express yourself through your videos.

Though I agree in part, we are social creatures, and believing something that everyone else doesn't is a precursor to psychological illness in most cases. Having confidence is one thing, being delusional is quite another.

Haha. That's funny to me because the only way I ever edit anymore is with spur-of-the-moment ideas. Ironically enough, though, those AMVs are my favorites of mine, even though most people who keep up with my videos seem not to agree.

Forgot to add that I had an idea to do a video for about four or so months, and when I actually started on it I was so sick of thinking about it that actually doing it was just boring to me. Now it may never get done

I know it's going to sound redundant, but I agree that no opinion really matters but yours. You made the video for yourself, right? If you make a video SPECIFICALLY for another person, then you might wonder if they liked it somewhat or not. Otherwise, it's a good bonus if some like it, but it's not the end of the world if they don't?

Of course, if we really did only care about our opinion of it, we wouldn't post it on the internet for others to download and watch.

Beta test. Don't ask for help on concept unless you think you need it. Focus on technical stuff. When you do it like that, it can be a BIG help.
And edit the way you want. Sometimes suggestions are good, but in the end, it's your video. Do it the way you want.

And plan beforehand, unless you have a massive HDD. Planning helps

Well the one of the many big mistakes I made when making an AMV is getting my video betaed by to many people and to early in the process (though early detection of faults is great, it can sometimes really mess up your plans for the whole amv).

Nowadays I just have it betaed when I think its "done" or at least close.

I ended up trashing an AMV due to to many great opinions, I had to many ideas flying through my head and the video was nowhere even close to finished so I just abandoned it because I couldn't make up my mind.

But that's just my experience.

Many betas can be good, but probably when your close to finishing the project.

I usually forget to do this, but if you do beta test, it tends to be helpful to ask/tell your beta tester or the person you're testing for what you or they actually want out of the beta. If you want an in-depth criticism of the video, ask for it. Or, you might just want a quick "yay or nay" if the vid you're working on is actually worth working on, or if it just totally misses the mark. Don't get angry or annoyed at people if you don't say anything and they end up not giving you what you want. For instance, you might not be ready for lots of criticism on a video; but if you don't tell them there's that chance they'll give you a bunch anyway, which if it's early on, might not actually be wanted yet.

But yeah . . . I most definitely recommend beta testing. It's usually a good idea to have a second pair of eyes (or a third, a fourth, or maybe even a fourtieth >_>) look at a video, as they might catch something that you missed or give you some additional ideas for your video.
