DAMIT!!! I WANT YOUR AVS SCRIPT!

*EDIT*
Ahem, what I meant to say: It was a really nice video, quality was sharp and kept it's quality even at full screen. Could I please see your AVS script to see what you did?

Does resizing to 848x480 count as a cleaning script?

Or maybe he didn't use a downloaded raw....... :O

You were asking for the AVS script that he used that made the footage look as good as it did. I am telling you, the only thing in the AVS script was just a simple resize. That's it. No additional cleaning or fancy filters or anything. I am going on the assumption that you're asking for this because you're also wanting to use the movie in a video and the version of the movie you have doesn't look quite as good as Jay's video. And this is because he didn't use a downloaded raw like you likely are.

Or maybe you aren't using it and were simply curious. But either way, the question has been answered.

Brad is telling the truth, I used the Japanese R2 DVD. No fancy filters, just a resize.

Nice vid, Koop. Deep inside I was hoping for another upbeat one, but I still really enjoyed it.
I love to wear absurd and totally impractical garments. What's more, I derive great pleasure from spending time with women for no apparent reason.

I just suspected that you did some fancy cleanup of your footage, I never doubted that it was DVD. Every DVD that I ever ripped needed something done to it (even Karas) that's why I'm totally surprised that your footage didn't need cleaning.

Thanks guys!
(Only once have I used downloaded material and I'll never use it ever again, too much work involved!)

It didn't really grab my attention.

The beauty of this video lies in the awesome work of Shinkai.
You wrote it yourself that you didn't have to do much more than that, and that's what it is for me - a presentation of fantastic landsapes, breakthrough details and marvellous animation of this anime.
Of course the mood is great, and there is also a story, but since I haven't seen this anime yet, I couldn't feel it as much as I would if I did.
That's why I will return to your vid once more when I watch "5 cms..."

I expected 'something more' than what you've created :)

Oh, and a note for ppl who glorified especially the source: an awesome quality doesn't make an awesome AMV, ya know ;)

Btw, it's a little funny for me what I just wrote since I feel I made my latest AMV exactly in the same way you did (from viewers' point of view) :D
And it seems that thanks to your vid I realized even more the weak points of my own AMV.
Thank you :D
I rly liek Pokemanz and so should you.

Aceman,

Perhaps you'd like it more if you had seen the anime, or perhaps you'd like it more if you liked the song. But it is what it is - a simple and sentimental video using at least one beautiful source (the song is a bit more debatable). Yes, I could have added things to make this to make this 'something more' than what it is, but as with all of Shinkai's work, I didn't deem it necessary. Putting his artwork as the centerstage of the video was definitely a huge factor in the editing of this (same with the other videos I made using his films). Granted it isn't nearly as 'epic' as the other videos I made from his films, but that's how I felt this movie was. It didn't have the grandeur of his previous films, and that's not what I wanted to portray. To me, it has more of an emotional connection based on having seen/known the story/characters, not meant to over-dramatize what was in the source.

Basically, I'm just leading to saying that these are not weak points of an AMV. Maybe if you mean presentation and/or originality, then yes, those are definitely 'weak,' however, simple videos that don't focus on those factors doesn't mean that the video itself is weak. I just don't want you to be discouraged from making something to reflect how an anime/song should look (to you) because you feel that you have to present 'something more' than what the sources provide.
