QC Suggestion

Post by CrackTheSky » Fri Jun 01, 2007 3:59 pm

As you all know, Quick Comment anonymity is the subject of much (or at least some) dispute. I remember when I read through the thread that generated QCs being coded into this site, Scintilla said something about having the option to make your quick comments not anonymous (I think it was Scintilla, anyway; I'm in a hurry and can't check right now). So, I was wondering...could there be some way to allow the option to check a box which will verify that YOU are the one leaving the quick comment?

I wouldn't imagine this would be a very difficult thing to do, but then again I am not a programmer so who knows.

Of course, this would only be an OPTION; those who wish to stay anonymous could do so. I don't know how often people sign other users' names, but I imagine it happens sometimes. I just think it'd be a nice feature for those of us who sometimes like to let others know that they are indeed the ones leaving the QCs.

Thoughts?

It's not like writing someone else's name is too much of a problem, most of the time it's just for a joke.

I don't think it would matter anyway, if it's an option that's still the same as deciding to write your name at the end or not...and if someone does impersonate someone, just ask that person?

I don't really think it's necessary.

like an option per QC or an option per person...

like what if i only want some of my qcs to be annon?

or would the option be like in your profile you can check it if you want it to automatically sign next to every qc you left?

Just to note that the admin, and maybe the mods, have the ability to find out who actually sent what QC. While it's anonymous to us it's not anonymous to them if they need to track down someone who's annoying a lot of people via QCs.

Considering that, I don't see the point of this. If you want the person to know that you probably sent it then sign the thing and hope they don't assume that's fake. If you REALLY want the person to know you said it then leave it in an op.

Yeah, this is the kind of response I was expecting...my thinking is, though, if it's easy to implement, why not do it? I'm not suggesting this because I get problem QCs, I just think it'd be a nice option.

My suggestion would be to put a checkbox next to each Quick Comment, and not make it something that applies to each individual one.

...I'm not even going to touch the hypocrisy of this post :?

It won't hurt anything.
It sounds like it could be set up without too much trouble.
I'd never use it, but I wouldn't mind if people giving me QCs did (especially those "can't play the video" people).

I vote add it to the "to-do" list and if they get to it, cool, if they don't, oh well.

People taking their time to write you that they can't play your file. Instead of using that same time to get it to work are hopeless anyway.

alot of the people who used to write those into opinions were also "hopeless" as they never seemed to check the responses to said opinions...
