My first video ever, so overall, it was a learning experience for me. No drastic special effects were used (still coming to grips with editing.) Just a plain and simple story-driven drama video, at least in my opinion.

Apologies for using "Beyond the Clouds" as my video footage (it seems to be a popular AMV title.) Though I do promise that I haven't seen any "Beyond the Clouds" AMVs prior to making mine, so any similarity to any other vids is purely coincidental .

Never heard of anyone complaining over it. The footage is gorgeous, and if you can make a good video to anything, noone's gonna complain. I'm in the final stages of making a video to this movie as we speak. I think that everyone who likes this movie and has drawn some sort of personal connection to it ought to make a video to it

And I also happen to be a fan of Porcupine Tree.

I'm gonna skip the "good for a first video" routine since I really don't believe in that whole thing - but you'll hopefully get a pat on the back for that from others.

Otherwise, I thought it was a really nice video; you hit a lot of nice points and while doing little impressive with the editing or technically otherwise, you picked a great song and executed everything adequately, while keeping up really good mood sync. The lyrics were used nicely at times too. I also like how you almost emphasized the whole 'war background' to the movie. Speaking from my currently-over-the-top knowledge of the footage (I've been staring at it for days now), you've used it well - maybe not super-creatively, but well.

So, linear and not exactly remarkable, but very nicely done. If that's where you start then there's only good things ahead of you.

Otherwise, since I love the movie and the song, this is a keeper by default. I'm gonna try to leave an op for it too. So cheers, and never question your footage choice, especially when you have such a (IMHO) strong song/visual combo.

I have not, actually. Working on this AMV was my first hands-on experience with working with NLE software or anything similar.

I would say that the most preparation I have done in creating this video was more in the video encoding side of things, far in advance of my actual editing of the footage. "AbsoluteDestiny & ErMaC's Technical Guide" on the site was an immense help, followed it down nearly word for word. I probably found all little technical video details more interesting than the actual video editing at some point last year .

I shall check this out when I have dsl, mostly because I generally appreciate well-versed newcomers and am quite into porcupine tree

very nice video for a first one, developed an overall sentimental feeling to it the longer it went on. that's pretty good considering that normally videos get worse over time ;>
