VAT DANCE
Ok I posted a few months ago about what are some good dance/upbeat vids. It got locked cause there is a section for that. Well I am revising my post, I need vids that are good to dance to. Now I have looked up and down all of the best (dance/upbeat vids) and come to a realization that there are alot of great songs on the org just not a lot of great vids that match up with them. Then I noticed that a lot of action vids have a lot of great drum and bass music and dance music but to look through all of the action vids would take me forever. So here is the question/Favor that im asking, can any of ya recommend and good/great amv's that you can dance to weather it be "dance", "upbeat", or "action". See I have for the last couple of year been wanting to do the VAT dance at AWA and I have been given the chance to do so but every year on our message boards we get people that dont like what we played in the VAT dance that year. Now I have over 300 AMV's of my own and probably about one nights worth of good dance vids to show, i need more. so plz help me to put on a great AMV dance this year at AWA. I do want to note that im not trying to put on a rave dance of amv's or anything I just want some good vids to add to my collection that I can show at the dance.

Maybe you should try a different approach.
Make a poll where the sort of people who attend the dance can list and vote on their favorite *songs* to dance to. Then come back here and try to find good videos to match those songs. If you do it with enough advance notice, you could probably request vids for songs that don't have any yet.
Good dance vids aren't necessarily set to good dance songs. Find your songs first. A music forum would be the best place to ask. I know very few amv editors/viewers who pick vids based on whether or not they can dance to them. o.O;

I wouldn't presume to talk to a real DJ, but what works for ME at a dance is high energy songs with a few 'break' songs worked in once in a while to slow things down. For something like the VAT dance which I attended briefly 2 years ago at AWA, there is a bit of attention paid to the videos but mostly people were just dancing to the music. So in that regard, just look for good danceable songs, the videos should more or less take care of itself unless it's truly nausea inspiring. I know when I was there y'all played 'Delerium' which I made the mistake of watching on the screen. It gives me a headache on a computer monitor...no offense to Anamorphic Productions, it's a damn excellent video but for me it's migraine inducing.
Mebbe RoS3? That's an unbroken long bit of music, already mixed for you and everything...same with some of the other MEPs that are out and about...

Ok im gonna use some filters here, that would have been used in the original post but would have me the "wall of text" even bigger. I know all of the big name editors I track all of there new and old works all the time. I know of all the MEPs that come out and I am trying to use as few of them as possible. Thanks for 'Delerium' and ROS3 those are good but I got them a long time ago. Also any song done to any of the top 20 dj's of the world I have a list of(not many good vids were done). So to help the search once again im looking for probably the lesser know amv's, the really good ones that never got much notice. worst cause is I keep drudging through the org till I find all that I need.

as the DJ / VJ for the Kawaii Kon butishake (this year was the first MV event I've tried), here's some advice I've learned over the years:
1. put up a request thread and make the requestor put up links to the videos they are requesting. Then, all you have to do is download, watch, and judge them. Not good for your dance? Then you've only wasted dl time and the time to view it. I made my requestors work pretty hard as if they really wanted a song/vid, they'd go hunt for a better d/l copy of it
2. you aren't going to please everybody - there's just no fricken way. There will always be a few individuals who think that their favorite MV wasn't played and badmouth the dance, etc etc etc - I just keep telling them 'if you don't say anything on my request forums, then how the hell should I know what you wanted to hear?' My advice, screw the detractors and try and please those folks who actually participated in the discussions.
3. depending on your audience, video quality may not really matter all that much. At AWA-06 VAT dance (which I was there), I noticed only about 15% of the actual attendees were actually watching the screen - most were just dancing to the music and weren't concerned what was actually on the screen. At Kawaii Kon, however, most were watching the screen, so I had to demand better video and audio quality. Use your experience to figure out how you should handle this.
4. I would refrain from playing highly popular songs continuously, one after another. The reason? Dancers tend to dance to what they like, and they loose their minds if ZOMG - I LOVE THIS SONG THATS COMING ON NEXT! and they keep dancing and dancing and dancing... and then all of a sudden they collapse from exhaustion or dehydration (which is what happen to me last year). Or, if popular songs are played in a string, more and more people crowd the dancefloor and accidents happen (which I think was one of the reasons for the injury at AWA-06 VAT dance).
I'd suggest ramping the music up and down, up and down, and insert breaks in-between them all for people to decompress, drink water, and frankly, wander off. I'd think that it's the DJ's responsibility to control the crowd once the music starts, not the other way around. And your best method of control is what you're playing and when you play it. Keeping everyone dancing 100% of the time may seem like a worthy goal, but I think trying to keep everyone safe is of a higher priority.
On a similar vein, don't be afraid to edit the videos. I know, I know - re-editing someone else's work is pretty much looked down upon, but you're trying to keep the attention of the audience, and frankly, people have a short attention span at times. Anything that goes on for too long, people tend to loose interest in (except for raves, for some reason... they can dance for hours to the same loop of music...). I usually try to keep the songs to about 3 minutes, give or take.
5. Since this is a VAT dance, don't limit yourself to only AMV's. There are a lot of great Asian music videos out there (called PV's or Promotional Videos) that you can use too!
6. have fun with it - if you're not having fun, how do you expect your attendees will have fun?
Here's a link to the playlist (including links for the most part to all the videos on the internet) I used:

hope this helps, and let me know if you have any questions!

Well our theme this year is a goth theme so I would love it if anyone knows of any good dark music vids like Psychomasis. I already thought about doing some editing to the vids to cut off bumpers. I also dont care if I please everyone at the dance. AWA6 was my first AWA I didnt go to the dance but loved everything else. I also understand that what is shown is not everything that matters but I cant stand showing vids that have a great song but horrible visuals. And one thing that I have learned from my DJ friends is to pace out the music. So to all ya out there I need some great/good vids that would match a goth theme and are good to dance to.

Hmm, gothic theme...
Might not be the danciest song but it is what *I* consider gothic.
