Why do ppl consistently complain about unoriginal ideas? I mean, I understand when it comes to things like naruto... But I've been getting comments...especially on my Advent Children AMV, that the idea was extremely overused. It just seem like their complaining to get your own ideas... I realize, yes, that FFVII: AC videos are extremely overdone...now...not when I made it which was about 3-4 months before it was on DVD here in america. I've seen some of the quick comments that ppl have left on videos like 'Whisper of the Beast,' which is currently #2 saying they didn't like it cuz it was an overused idea...

When leaving an op...I think ppl should be a little more constructive about the idea of the amv itself. Three out of four of the ops I have on my FFVII amv flamed it for being unoriginal. I recently got one about my FLCL vid saying "FLCL Videos... especially like this one, are so overdone that its not even funny. This song-anime combo has even been done before!" This in no way is constructive criticism. And for that matter there's only one other FLCL - Kryptonite vid on the site...so its not a very overused idea...

I realize that it may be annoying to see the same animes over and over in amvs...but it's alos annoying to hear ppl complain about it...

Bottom line: if you want your video to stand out and rank highly, you have to impress your [wider] audience.

If you can't impress them with a solid concept, then your execution has to be over and above. If you can't do either, then don't be surprised that your audience is not impressed.

And if you weren't out to impress a wider audience in the first place, then of course you've no right to complain

so this topic is about YOUR videos, right? have you considered that perhaps your amvs aren't original?

Its hard to be original with an anime that only has 6 episodes, or a movie like Advent children. There just are too many people using them and not enough source material. So when your AMV doesn't do anything special, expect people to find it "unoriginal"

Especially given when AC first came out (even in Japan) everyone and their white-haired mother knew it was gonna get overused in almost record time, so they scrambled to get in on the first wave.

It's funny how you say it's ok for something like Naruto, but with FF7, HOW DARE YOU!

Uh...they're BOTH extremely overplayed and they're not the only ones. Yes, they have a large, very easily pleased, fanbase, but there are some who will critisize the idea because they have seen it SO much.

To FFAC:
The amvs were already made when only the trailers were out.

Unoriginal... Come on! It´s about comeing out of a little box and play with the other stuff too.
You can´t complain about such critism when you use of overused things. That´s all. You can´t deal or don´t want such comments? Ignore them or do more original stuff!

Because of amvs I can´t hear the song anymore. -.- It´s popular for amvs sinc 2000. "Hey wait a moment! How can a 7 year old idea still be original?"

Ok people... please tell me how we could give constructive critismn about overused things?

In my eyes there is no way to give constructive stuff about the main originality in amv. It´s a boolean:
TRUE = It is unoriginal
FALSE = It is original

=/

Of course there is a difference with flaming but there is no way to give constructive stuff about the main idea (song+anime+theme).

So the combo of song and anime makes the originality of an AMV? I must be very original, none of my anime/song combos was done before (at least if you count original song and cover as different). Song/anime combo are one part of originality, but it needs much more to be original - editing style, scene choice, if it has a story then what story is told, possible changes of the footage or self creation of footage, and, and, and....

And if you read that op about the FLCL vid carefully - it doesn't say that the fact that this combo was used before makes the AMV unoriginal - it says it is unoriginal at all, is like dozens (or hundreds?) of other FLCL-vids, and the fact that even the song was used for FLCL before is the crown of the missing originality.
