First AMV: Haruhi is Forever
Excuse the generic sounding title.
This is actually my very first AMV, inspired by the amazing Skittles AMV by Koopiskeva.
I like the outcome, but it was hard to make because while Mugen is a fantastic song, it was difficult to work with.
Do I set up the scenes to the beat or to the lyrics? Will people even know what the lyrics mean? Mugen is kind of an ironic song, though. Then, what scenes to use? Fun ones? Serious ones? Timing? Effects? Jeez!
It turned out being a fast paced scene-syncing fest to Mugen alternating between matching the beats and then the lyrics. Like I said, I'm relatively happy with the resulting product, but I do feel a little underwhelmed by it, not to mention that I feel like I kind of let down the awesomeness of the song itself.
So... review away...?

the Haruhist in me compels me to download this video.

Edit: No creditless openings available to you? ;p
Pretty good for a first amv actually, I was expecting worse. Your sync was good for the most part, especially the dance scenes and the music parts, lip sync was tolerable, though not perfect, and the visual quality wasn't too bad. Just that I saw some interlacing artifacts in your edits. The editor program you used (in this case Vegas) probably was not set to no feilds progressive before you edited so It did all the effects, fades, etc as interlaced.
Only thing is it seemed rather random without knowing what the song is actually saying, is there any lyric sync in this at all? (as in what the song is saying, not treating the vocals as an instrument) if so, I'd be interested in a translation of the lyrics ;p
though, especially for a first time editor.

Thanks. This helped a lot. Opening credits = result of drilled in video production 2 class technique, besides, I wanted to use a clip of Kaeshite!! Knee Socks.Bakadeshi wrote:the Haruhist in me compels me to download this video.

Lip sync was not meant to be. I thought about it, but it doesn't fit the voice as it's a male singer. Some happens to sync in by chance, but overall, lip sync was not a goal. Lip flap is really annoying, and I don't really have a good way of dealing with it. T_T
Interlacing is the fault of the video converter I used. The master was ginormous at a full 1GB so I converted down to a h264 .avi keeping the same resolution = 1GB becomes an amazing 60MB~ish size. o_0! The master looks fine, but I did notice interlacing artifacts in the converted version. I'll have to look around for a way to render the original project a tad bit smaller, and if possible, without the black border around it.
Mugen was indeed hard because most people don't know the lyrics, and all I have is the beats to work with. I tried setting the AMV to both, but really hard without people understanding the lyrics. Plus, the real MV is a bit ironic in its juxtaposition to the lyrics so I followed that route a bit.
Well, here they are:
Mugen // Infinite
::Porno Graffitti
-----------------
I'm afraid of the dark because
It seems that at this rate it will dissolve away some day
I'm fine with just a little bit of light
I'm returning the outlines
I'm warming my chilled fingertips
by joining my hands together, but
My sadness seems to come and go
and that's how I pray
*
The time I was hurt while
playing with illusions..
Did you laugh thinking it was futile?
If indeed this world was fantasy from the beginning
then let's go to that rainbow hanging in the sky
I don't desire "eternity" because
I wish to see tomorrow
By riding on top of the piles of passed time
I hope I can finally reach tomorrow
Not being able to live alone
Is certainly not a sign of weakness, but
What do I look like in the reflection in people's eyes?
Is there no one that embraces the shadows?
Reality exists just to play tricks on us
It seems it'll blow out that little bit of light
and so I started running
Toward the freely sparkling sun
Repeat *
Having a fever so bad as to sob--
Is the blowing wind also making your hair sway?
Things without an end are infinite
This illusion is infinite
I scream out my far-off thoughts

Wow, this was some really good first AMV ^^ The Footage Quality was really good (besides of the interlacing, but that was already said)
The editing was really good too. On some parts the timing could have been better, but overall it had a really nice flow...
Lipflap may be bothering some people, but I don´t really pay attention to that O_o Just one clip of the live performance of Haruhi, when the music was instrumental, seemed out of place to me...
The only thing bugging me: The song was kinda long ^^ It was really cool, but it became boring near the end.
However, nice AMV. Keep it on

Which place are you talking about? I think I know, but you said "just one clip" so I'm a little unsure.Angelic86 wrote:Just one clip of the live performance of Haruhi, when the music was instrumental, seemed out of place to me...

Aww, but Mugen is so good!

But that's the problem I was worrying about: the images were more "exciting" the second half of the song because I started fitting the images to the song instead of vice versa, but I was still dealing with the issue of the unknown lyrics.
If one doesn't know what's going on, it's boring, right?
*sigh*
