Hey... I think I'm a magnet to Fruits Basket videos, so I downloaded this. I'm glad I did. ^_^
Just to be clear, I'm not a fan of romance videos between the two main guys and Tohru. Still, that's what most of them are, so I end up watching them anyhow. So...
- video quality - it seems like so many of the FB videos I see have mixed aspect ratios or they're just not pretty to look at. This one was totally uniform and what screen noise I did see wasn't distracting at all. A couple of light filters in Avisynth probably could have cleaned those things up. Also, I'm especially glad to see that the quality was this good, and the filesize (relative to the length of the video) wasn't big at all.
- the concept - I'm not familiar with the song, but it seemed like you matched the lyrics and the mood fairly well, so kudos there.
- timing and pacing - your timing was very good, but I think it was too fast for the video. It felt like you were trying to hit every beat with a scene change, and that detracted from the storytelling in some ways, because the viewer can't keep up with what is going on onscreen. However, I do like very much how you edited the last minute of the song. It's especially interesting that at many times you used scenes that just sort of flowed into each other - like, Kyou would be turning his head, and then the next scene would have Tohru doing the same thing, and so on. It gives the video a good sense of continuity.
- the zooming box effect - while I don't think it looked bad by any means, it was just kind of awkward for a slower-paced romance song. I expect that sort of effect in a techno video, and it felt misplaced here.
Overall, this is a really good video, and I enjoyed it a lot. Even though I'm not a fan of FB pairings, this is something that I'd still keep around and watch from time to time. I've seen other Kyou/Tohru videos, but this one actually makes it look convincing, unlike many of the others, which often use too much angst, or too many comedic scenes. This was a good balance of both. So, great job~! ^_^
