oOoOoO

What is it with Frou Frou and the need for AE

I had a love/hate relationship with some of the effects you used in this.

The very beginning with the quick masking was a little tooo quick. Wasn't really a fan of the piano-key effect that would pop up occasionally, I found it a little distracting. And at 2:32, it would have been better if the colour foreground was centered overtop the black and white background.

Sometimes I noted that consistency of effects was thrown out to try new ones. Kinda threw off the flow.

Really liked the butterflies, the blurs, those pika-stars (like at 2:18) and that swirly transition thingie.

I did really enjoy this video though, it works great for the characters and it is my new fave of your vids :)

Thank you both for replying ^_^ I though this thread was gonna die like everything else I start >_>;;

I didn't use AE for this video ^^;; This was done with Ulead VS9, so that might explain some of the not very good effects. The primary reason for the different use of effects was because I was trying to synch with both music and beat in different ways, not to be too repetitive.

Forgive me for sounding like a noob, but what is rotoscoping?

That's when you "cutted" all around the character with some tool in order to delete the background. (making work in other terms)
If i remember correctly, you used this "effect" at the begining.

Oh, thank you for clearing that up. Hmmm... the "cutting" was bad? I thought I did it pretty nicely :) Or was it the glow around the characters that seemed sketchy?

hm no exactly but you didn't tone down (smooth) the contours of those characters which gave some kind of aliased aspect, that was a pity plus knowing is easy to apply this smooth aspect :?

His english might be a little hard to understand if you don;t know the tech lingo, so let me see if I can clarify for ya. He's speaking of the roughness around the edges of the characters that you cut out and put over your amv. If you pause it and look closely at the edges before the glow around it, you see jagedy edges kinda like a staircase effect. He is saying you should anti-aliase these edges to make it look smooth. I have no idea how to tell you to do this in Ulead. Especially since I don;t know what method you used to mask out the backgrounds. are these images you edited in an image editor like Photoshop and imported with an transparant background? or did you mask it out in Ulead?

Usualy the method I would use had I been using premeire's TRrack-Matte effect, is on the mask image, (wich is just a while fill of the shape of the character I want to show through without the background) I would just blur that with a gausian blurr, something like 5 pixels, more or less to taste. then when you use it as the mask layer, It will fade out the edge of the mask over 5 pixels. If Ulead has something similar to this, maybe you can try that.

Anyway, otherwise, the video was well edited, but as stated, alot of the effects felt to blatant and took away from the video. A few came close to being cheesy also. pretty much the same complaints as moonlight soldier.

I'm not particularly a fan of shounen AI, though it doesn;t realy bother me either in Anime form, I just downloaded it to see if I could help you with the antialiasing problem ;p

Thank you for the thorough explanation, Bakadeshi ^^ The method I used was cleaning still images in PhotoDraw and applying them over the AMV with a transparent background. Ulead does not support many masking options. It has a chroma key feature, but that is very much about it and whay I had used to get some of the effects done in the AMV.

Regarding the effects, heeheee.. you might not believe it but I was aiming at making the video feel a bit "cheesy" in terms of editting. I wanted to make something that feels "fan-girl-ish".. Like something that goes on in the mind of a fangirl of the pairing. Either way, thank you for your help ^_^ I'd better get to learning premiere soon =)

I thought the effects had a definite 'shoujo anime' feel to them, not really cheesy so much as cutsy. I would have liked fewer effects, but only because I haven't seen the anime and the footage (eyecandy for me) went by so quickly I couldn't really appreciate it all. Definitely a pretty vid, and it really makes me look forward to watching this anime. ^_^
