Noir Raider: Second Edition (Made for AWA10)

Post by DJ_Izumi » Sat Aug 14, 2004 8:36 pm

Well, the link is actually in my signature, I've used the same entry. Anyway, my 'Mireille Bouquet: Tomb Raider' trailer has been dramaticly im proved for AWA.

You can access the video via my signature, or simply by going here: http://animemusicvideos.org/members/mem ... hp?v=33298

I'm looking for some new opinions, and I'll happily trade 1:1 for them. :}

First of all, I had previously used 640x360 OGM encodes of Noir as source material, this time I went and used the true DVDs. Deciding to do something as a first on the org, rather than downsizing the anamorphic Noir DVDs down to fit the screen, I decided to scale them up from 720x480 to 856x480 to achive the highest possible resolution video within the limits of the source material. (I mean hey, that's why they MAKE DVD's anamorphic to be stretched out, not to be letter boxed and scaled down!) So this is quite possibly the highest resolution video on the org to date. (Go me.)

Why should you upgrade to Second Edition? Why, NR:SE offers you many improvments over the original. Not only has video quality been dramaticly improved, but certian scenes have been changed, text effects and details have been improved using Adobe After Effects, also the lip sync has been optomized for proformance. The video has already been uploaded for the AWA10 Expo competition.

Saw the original and this is just icing on the cake. Also, I would've never thought to upsize with anamorphic material and, apparently, you don't loose quality, so its probably not a bad idea to use that theory from now on. (Although, I'll still downsize for distro).

Anamorphic works well because of the base principal behind it. The mind dosn't notice loss of horozontal resolution as much as it does vertical resolution and total resolution. Besides, stretching out from 720x480 to 856x480 is only 136 pixels. Actually, the true 16:9 size should be 854x480, but 854 isn't a multiple of 8 and thusly upsets most all codecs, so I added 2 to get it to work well.

I'm surprised no one else has actually thought of this. I imagine it'd work even better on a clean, crisp, widescreen digi-anime, like GitS: Stand Alone Complex or something.

Well, I guess I was thinking outside of the box. :D Others will likely do what I've done now, since it's so simplisticly brilliant. ^_^

I think people have thought of it, and rejected it, largely because of the headaches such a huge resolution will give people who have older computers.

took the words right out of my mouth. I HAVE tried this, and it kinda hickups my laptop every now and then, and its a celeron 1.3 Ghz. Imagine people with slower systems than that.

The changes look pretty though, downloading.

You did a god job bumping the Resolution, Izumi. No hiccups at all. :)

Video's looking better than ever. Keep up the good work!

agreed, good job. the title screen at the end especially looks much nicer now. the thing you did with the clock and the text effects is cool aswell. I'd say the remaster is a success.

I used After Effects for the texts, with the 'Shine' effect from Trapcode, I was able to do some cool 'flashing' (Like the background of the Tomb Raider logo). Though really, I'm just scratching the surface of After Effects.

As for future projects, I was eagerly planning a Sakura Wars vs Moulin Rouge. When I said I'd do it, I had only seen the movie, and figured the OVAs and TV series would have the same kind of footage I needed... Nope. I've almost finished watching the 4th of 6 discs in the SakWar TV DVD set, if I can't find the dancing I need in there, project will be cancled.

The Butterfly Effect vs Evangelion is something I've been waiting a LONG time to do, been waiting on a 'Release Group' (Ya, you know what I mean) to finish releasing the Evangelion: Renewal, only three episodes left and then I can get to work on that. Should work out well, though I don't know how long it will be untill they get off their duffs and do the last three episodes. :/

I've also been considdering doing ANOTHER Tomb Raider trailer. Mireille Bouquet: Tomb Raider, The Cradle Of Kirika. Obviously done to the Cradle Of Life trailer. This would be a MUCH harder project since the necessary scenes do not exist in Noir, I'll have to start mix/matching from a few other series. I've never attempted to layer a character from one anime into another with After Effects, so that would be a difficult project. :

I could always distro it in Mpeg-1, even at that resolution Mpeg-1 wouldn't be that CPU demanding. >:P (I can't actually do it in Mpeg-2 without going beyond Mail Level @ Main Level's limitations, and certian decoders might just crap themselves if I go to a higher profile. XD)
