Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Because you made a bad video. On purpose.

A lot of people do that, though. I admit, it baffles me why an editor - in a community where editors strive for excellence - would waste his time trying to make something horrid. But I've seen *good* editors (some actually great at editing) make purposely bad videos without getting flamed for it. Sure, there are a few like myself who might post and ask why waste your time on something bad instead of working for something good - but that's not the same as the flames in this thread. If they are only because he made something bad on purpose, then *everyone* who makes purposely bad videos should get the same reaction. And they don't. Admit the hypocrasy and the reasons behind it before you take part in it.

[And no, I won't comment on the video or even watch it - I don't see the reason for making a video bad on purpose. If I want to watch bad vids, I'll watch the ones by new creators who simply can't *help* not being good editors - the ones who try to be good and plan to improve.]

Actually I agree with that. However, if a video is done so badly as to be a joke, there should probably be something in the video to indicate that it's a joke rather than just a poorly done video. If there's something like that in the video, then I apologize.

I don't think I really 'wasted my time' (I only spent an hour on the video).

The movies that I make where I DO strive for excellence are usually met with heavily negative feedback, or in most cases, none at all.

In the movies I actually work on, I rarely even get opinions. This video already outranks my JULY-POSTED FF8 video, both in hits and star numbers. At least people will see it, and actually comment on it.

No opinions yet. Not even an all 1's. :?:

That sucks. I usually think no attention is better than negative attention - but I do know of a case or two where the editor started out with a huge flame-filled thread only to go on and make well-received (meaning no bored flamers) feedback. The reason was because he ignored the negative comments. He also made himself known in the Op exchange - where people are guaranteed to watch your vids.

Look at it this way, you've been a member for over a year and you've given 11 reviews. People don't know you as a reviewer, you can't have done many op exchanges so they don't know you from that - they know you from this purposely bad video. Is that really how you want to get your name out there? Best bet - to get feedback, give feedback. And if you can't give feedback (download issues) then nab the tiny 5mb vids and review those - chances are the people will appreciate it and return the favor. And even if they don't - when I look at someone who's given a number of reviews and only gotten a few in return, I'm more likely to want to give that person free feedback to try and make up for the ones who didn't return that favor (courtesy). And there's always the free reviews on the Op Exchange if you just want constructive criticism for yourself (won't help you get known by more than a few people, but word of mouth can be a good way to get more people looking at your vids).

But that's positive attention - with negative attention they'll know you all right. They'll know you as the person who threw something together to be bad on purpose instead of trying to make something they and others can enjoy. In that case, they'll know your name enough to avoid your vids - which won't help anything if you want to get more positive feedback on your work.
