Stop & Stare

DDL: Mediafire

This is my third AMV, I spent like 4 weeks on this one.
I tried to change the editing style, I made it calmer but still dynamic.
I hope you'll like it !

I won't lie, I dug this one. For it being your 3rd AMV this is pretty impressive (imo). Of course some of the pans and zooms were a bit choppy in some places, but nonetheless a very entertaining vid. The movement with the pans kept me interested, but on scenes where you didn't pan or there was no movement it just felt out of place. Btw, is it just me or did some of your Angel Beats! clips have a purple-ish tinge to them? Good work!

The atmosphere was really good. However, I feel you did too many zooms. At one point, I was expecting the next scene to have a zoom, and it did. The sync wasn't bad, but it got a little dull midway. Try and vary your sync patterns so it makes the video feel more fresh. When you have the same sync pattern throughout, it gets kind of boring. Anyways, I liked it! Keep it up :D

The concept of the video was a sacrifice to the atmosphere, but I suppose it's not really important to have anything conceptually in certain amvs, making this one of those "random but pretty" amvs, which exist in the thousands; that's the main reason why I didn't like it, but of course, that's just my dig, and it should be known that the amv, technically, was very well done, and that's really all that matters when you're just starting amvs, and you were obviously experimenting with different styles anyhow. :)

So technically speaking now:

*the color correction was good.
*Movement in the clips matched the paces in the song pretty well, although the switches between the more action-like scenes to more still, atmospheric ones was a bit odd.
*The transitions were good (not choppy) and the zooms were actually placed at the right spots, it was just the continuous zooms that made it a bit predictable and boring. However, the size of the video makes up for this; if it were a minute longer, then I'd be more concerned.
*The fades in the beginning were a bit short, however, and gave it a choppy look; this is also due to the fact that you have color correction on the clips, and so when you fade out you can see the colors on the whites, giving it that choppy look. A lot of great and very popular videos get away with this when I think they should be criticized for it, but that's just because I think it looks really shitty, and some people don't care. Point being (imo)-- when you fade to black, the entire clip should be fading to black, not fading to black plus some other colors, which is the side effect of using color correction. Easily fixable, though.
*Synch was overall good-- it cut to other scenes at the right time, however, I think it lacked variety, after :42. That was the moment that it became predictable, but before that there was a lot of impact and variety to make it interesting.

This type of amv is really popular nowadays-- if you made it two minutes longer and had more pretty scenes, plus maybe a vague theme (optional), people would eat it up. For me, it's not my cup of tea conceptually (as it didn't have a concept/theme) but like I said, not really important when you're just experimenting with editing techniques. And keep it up, you seem to be a very diverse editor (I saw the Steins gate amv, a completely different style/genre, but also well executed.) I think your experience in making those shooter-gmvs (i have no idea what to call them) really helps you, and a lot of those techniques I often see in those videos would be really neat to see used in amvs.
So overall, well done, especially for a third amv. :up:

Thanks for your feedbacks :D

@Drageer

The purple-ish tinge is due to the color correction I applied.

@pacotacoshell

Yeah, I wasn't really inspired with the transitions, i'll make them more varied next time :)

@Taite

That kind of editing, "random but pretty", is not really my style, it was just an experiment, I just really love the music and I wanted to make a video with it, a fast-paced editing (which is my usual style) would have been inappropriate.
But yeah, now that i've rewatched it, it clearly lacked variety.
Thanks for your encouragement :D

I really liked it, a lot!

I still can't believe it's your third amv. Edit wise I really like it, specially the pans and zooms. Also, the scenes flow really well :)
