Lazy, arrogant opinions
We've all got them (well, most of us anyway)- AMV opinions of just a few words, usually something along the lines of "GOOD: everything", "BAD: nothing" "GENERAL: awesome amv loved the idea". Lazy, but you can't really hate them, they usually give all 9s and 10s. But I got an op the other day with a scores ranging from 5-7, an overall of 6 and the only comment was "Needs no explanation". What a fucktart! Being strict is OK (the scores were extremely strict but could still plausibly be applied to our AMV if your standards are high enough) but to not give any actual feedback and then act as if your scoring is obvious (implying the AMV obviously doesn't deserve any better) is the height of arrogance. It's seriously brought down the average of the AMV (which only has 3 ops, the other two have markedly higher scores) and has me spitting chips.
Doesn't this just piss you off when this happens?

I think that part of the problem tends to be that people don't all work from the same scale.
If you read the number markers in an opinion, it says that 5 is average. Therefore, if you get even a six or a seven, you should be happy, no? Well, most people don't actually utilize the 1-10 range. I know I don't.
Personally, I don't like having that big of a range to work with, because it makes it harder to tell what a "good" score is. I tend to use 5-10 as a 1-5 kind of scale. Therefore, if I give a 5 on any score (except Re-viewable, where I do utilize the 1-10), it means you sucked. It was the worst it could be. So, it's not always uncommon to see me give out nines and tens to people. I'm not doing it to overinflate their scores. I'm just doing it because that's what works best for me scale-wise, and it seems like most of the site thinks that way as well.
However, not every member of the site works that way. There are several that do use the 1-10 range. Why? Well, it's because that's what we're actually supposed to be doing.
So, in a roundabout way, what I'm trying to say is this: if the guy gave you a six for Overall, maybe it's because he interprets six as being above average - exactly what the scoreboard says it is, technically.
Of course, he could just be a fucktart. You never know. ^_~

Exact. The lower the score is, the more explaination is necessary. It doesn't matter how obvious it is for the reviewer. It mus also become clear to the reviewed.devilmaykickass wrote:Well if you give all 10's and no real explination I don't see it as a huge deal but if you give me 1's and 2's I better damn well get an explination as to why...

yeah, I've run into this a lot too. Normally, as you said, they give a few words and high marks. But the other day, I got one that had three words, and all 7s except for two categories. Now, I wouldn't have minded the 7s, except that his comments were about only one of the categories, which he gave an 8.
I understand that people don't want to write essays for opinions. But I think it's just unfair to the videos you're reviewing to give lousy, ratehr incomplete opinions. You don't have to leave an opinion, but if you click that button, be prepared to write a paragraph or two about the video. A paragraph, it's all that long, and takes 5 minutes to write. I think, for at least most of us who are seeking opinions, that is all we're looking for.
Of course, it will differ between editors (I prefer long opinions to no opinion at all), but although we don't like short, incomplete opinions, the chances of us doing anything about it are slim
