A regretful or remorseful song

Post by A2L » Tue Aug 02, 2005 3:30 pm

Hey all, just wondering if you guys can help me out here. I have an idea of an amv but I need a song that has either a electronica (more epic tranceish) or a normal rock (guitar, drums, bass, etc) background.

I would prefer a female (not necessary though) singing of remorse or guilt of past actions (hopefully doesn't say outright what it is, preferrably it leaves the listener to assume what it is) and can't forgive her/himself and can't move on.

I would like it if the verses were slow and then the chorus the instruments just go insane like... also if it has the electronic background, it'd be cool if the voice was kind of synthesized sounding. I just want a really dark and sad song (also by sad I don't mean Dashboard Confessionals people)... so hope you guys can help out.

Also if you want more info on what I'm looking for just ask... cuz I know that isn't the clearest. Thanks -A2L

'Under the Bridge' by Red Hot Chilli Peppers

'Cold November Rain' by Guns N Roses

Idunno I'm just rattleing things offa my playlist

'Bad Day (again)' by Feul

'My Immortal' by Evanescance of coarse

'Victoria' by John Mayor

'Meet Virginia' by... whoever sings that

The last two are pretty darned specific though. I think My Immortal is the best song for a drama or here, ignore the overuse arguement. The world can use more Linkin Park 'Crawling' ROMANCE amvs. 'Under the Bridge' is normally considered a bit of a fast song, but listen to it and realize that under the bridge IS under the bridge, dirt under the bridge. He aint talking about his happy birthday present there. Perfect for the drama part of Chobits.

Hmmm... I'm not sure, but you could try 'ATWA' by System of a Down. It certainly fits the requirements of slow verses and insane instrumental choruses. As far as remorsefulness goes, it's all up to how you interpret it. It definitely has a gloomy feel to it.

Let's see...what can I do for you? ("I can't hear you!" - anyone who knows that gets brownie points ^_^)

Amanda Marshall - "Beautiful Goodbye" - female vocals + remorseful message. A song about two people separating, and the girl wondering if the guy ever thinks about her. It is a slow ballad, so it lacks the "go crazy" feeling that you want.

BoA - "Jewel Song" - female vocals + sad sound + powerful orchestral choruses (but not electronica). It's in Japanese...or Korean (I'm not sure), so consider that first. However, it is a powerful ballad.

Cold - "Cure My Tragedy" - male vocals + depressing love theme + mellow rock verses + loud rock choruses (no screaming). A recent favorite of mine, it just demands a good video.

Try music by Garbage. They have a pretty unique sound with a female lead vocal.

Nine Inch Nails - "And All That Could Have Been" - male vocals + SEVERE depression + extremely solemn (meaning, no electronica/rock). You can't get much more remorseful than this. Seriously, I mean it.

Poe - "Haunted" - female vocals + regretful message + musical depression (if you get my drift). This song has a woman singing about her past, basically, in fairly vague lyrics.

Music by Sarah McLachlan. Most of her stuff is slow, musical ballads, but the lyrics tend to be very deep.

Savage Garden - "Gunning Down Romance" - feminine male vocals + generally negative message (as if the title of the song didn't clue you in) + flowing, beat-strong verses + powerful rock ending. This is easily one of my top five favorite songs ever, but it lacks a really good video. I would kill for a great video to this.

Theory of a Deadman - "The Last Song" - male vocals + a guy singing about missing his woman + mellow rock verses + powerful rock and orchestra choruses. It's a gorgeous rock ballad, but the lyrics can be a bit specific. So keep that in mind.

Music by Tori Amos. Her style is all over the place, with some songs being powerful, and others being completely mellow.

That's all, I think. I just tried to go with the best of the best - or what I thought fit best. None of that music has much in the way of electronica (not that I don't like it; I just don't have any that fits your criteria).

So, I hope that this helps. I always like to throw out my suggestions! ^_^

As always, Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!

OK sweetness guys! I'll definitly see if I can somehow check all those out... also Dj_ultima thanks for reminding me of Sarah McLachlan... forgot all about her. Also, by Boa you mean the the European band right? Not the Jpop artist... right??

And knowname, I'm not too worried about having an original song (it'd be nice if I could find one that fits) I'm just more interested in finding the ONE that would work, regardless if there's been countless other vids using it already.

I'll check em out, thanks again!

sweet, I tend to like most creator's view on this type of subject lol, maybe it takes a creator to know that you can easily duplicate somebody else' work so it won't stay original, it's a nonsense idea in the first place I'd think.

And you'd be suprised how many mainstream songs are ignored just because ppl might think it would be popular... but I doubt Cold November Rain is in there and last I checked (in 2004) there was only one Under The Bridge video!! But, yeah, if you can tap into a good translation of the song, no matter how popular, I'm sure you'll get praised. I'd take Bad Day out, I didn't know you wanted something fast... I guess my 'not easy being me (not afraid to fly)' Gene Starwind profile idea is still in tact... and I'm still overflowing with ideas lol.

Actually, I was referring to BoA the oriental artist (I think she's considered K-pop, actually.) That's why I mentioned that it was in another language, because I wasn't sure if you'd want to do a video that had a foreign song.

^that's right... I think it is Korean pop... sorry my brother and my friend both listen to her and they usually have her on the same cd or playlist with Ayu...

Also, when the later DVD's come out for a certain anime (waiting for the last eps to be put on dvd) I'm gonna do a an amv to a russian song =/ i started it off with the footage I already had... kinda difficult when you don't know exactly which part they're singing (i have the translations)... I get lost on it easily...

also WMM for some reason if I skip around the song gets weird... like if I start from the beginning everything sinks up... but if i skip like 15 seconds ahead the chorus starts either earlier or later and pretty much it happens every time I skip about. SO i always have to start it from the begining to make sure everything matches up.

And knowname I agree, too many songs really are overlooked simply because everyone uses them. How they use them is what matters.
