I built mine a few years ago, this is what I had when I made my amvs.
Soyo dragon+ 266 mobo
AMD 1600xp
512 266ddr ram
60gb western digital hd
ATI 7500 all in wonder card
Lite on 40x12x48 cdrw
Benq dvd rom
Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers
17" Mag monitor
Microsoft trackball
Software - Windows xp, Windows movie maker, DVD decrypter, and TMPGEnc. Most of my video was captured from a dvd player through my video card. I made my videos before I knew this site existed and that there was help available.
Since then I have upgraded, Plextor 708a dvdrw, Western Digital 200gb added, 1gb of Kingston ddr ram, AMD 2000xp. This makes editing easier but I doubt it will improve my poor talent.

Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

Here's my old box the last time I had it, I've given it away to my cousin and it's gained some drives and such since.
It was my first computer (though the spec you see is what I turned it into, originally only had 64MB shared RAM and onboard graphics). Kinda regret giving it away, feel a bit sentimental.
Name: XXXG-00W0
Processor:
AMD Duron M3 "Spitfire" 750MHz (100 x 7.5) - overclocked to 900 MHz, 120MHz bus (120 x 7.5)

This piece of turd, is the computer I have been forced to use at the moment, it's so slow it struggles to play some AMVs. Kinda weird really as my older system would have played the same files no problems.

And here's my current box, in pieces at the moment, having stability issues. I'm convinced RAM related.

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ "Clawhammer" 2200MHz (200 x 11) - overclocked to 2387 MHz, 217MHz bus (217 x 11) (Not had much oppurtunity for overclocking yet)

Monitor
19" Samsung SyncMaster 957p
28" Panasonic Widescreen TX-28DK1
Well hopefully I should be able to get it up and running and post some nice overclocks, it's already looking promising. Interesting to see other people's specs as well.
Any parts you lot particularly reccomend? The Audigy ZS has a problem with the Epox 8KDA3+, you have to boot without the card and disable the onboard AC97.
If you are wanting to go Athlon64, do it. Awesome performance even just in 32bit mode (did some benchies and it was a tiny bit out in the lead of a 3.4GHz P4 for the Dhrystone tests, but AMD still lack in the Whetstone department)
The Plexwriter Premium is an awesome CD writer, has a mode where you can change the pit size and fit 1.4x more onto a normal CD, so a 700MB disc can then hold close to 1000MB (1GB) or if you overburn, I've had nearly 1.1GB

3D Mark is just a system benchmark. Plays through a load of game demos at different settings and notes how many fps you score and such.
At the end it gives you one big score which is combined performance.
People like bum and I use it to make sure everythings nice and tweaked, not to mention a bit of harmless competition and bragging 8)

I'm on the Pornstation, and running the following:
Intel Motherboard: D685PERL*
3.0 Ghz P4 processor with hyperthreading, 512 L2 cach, 800 meg FSB, blah blah blah.
512M DDR433 ram by Vertigo (I think that's right)
ATI Radeon 9800XT (which I got for $375 US, suck on that)
UBAR1337 integrated sound
160Gig Maxtor HD 7200 RPM
Some generic DVD Rom Drive
Some generic Floppy Drive
Windows XP (thinking about repartitioning and reloading slackware, or perhaps Gentoo)
Hardcore games:
Solitare (If you know who Maddox is, you'll get that).
Programming Language:
Porn++
(Thinking about loading linux to have multiple compilers. The only language I know anything about is C++ anyway.
)
*This is the same board brolly345 has. He just sucks and can't remember it.

I have 3 AMVs that I am working on right now... the whole 3 at a time thing is probobly why you don't see them yet haha so they will all be done on my newer machines
Right now I am using a laptop:
Pentium M Centrino 2 Ghz
1024 RAM
60 GB 7200 RMP HD
Radeon 9700
4x DVD+R/RW
with headphones 8)
I'm also redoing my main computer with water cooling.
Anthlon XP 3200+
1024 Corsair PC 3200 DDR Ram (512x2 2 channel)
Radeon 9700 Pro
About 500 GB HD space all 7200 RPM in a SATA RAID array
nForce 2 chipset
I am still deciding on a sound card... I am thinking of the M-Audio Revolution 5.1 card (or an Audigy ZS Gamer)
I use Logitech 4.1 400 watt THX speakers
For software I user Premiere 6.5 with after effects and vegas 4 as well as sound forge 6 and cubase for audio if needed
(V-Dub Mod, V-Dub etc with plugins and all the codec stuff, too)
(Hope my post makes sense I'm too tired for my own good right now.)
